HCEG 2.0 Fails, I'm comin over here!

My only experience with CSS is modifying this place but there are STYLEVARS (I'm not sure if thats just a vBulletin thing or its a real design word :embarrassed:) that allow you to change each components color or other parameter. This is what the default look of this site is:http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/

It was a little hard on the eyes, too :embarrassed:

Yeah, I'm not saying that everyone should know how to edit CSS, but surely one of these whizz-bangs at JiveSoft should know enough to correct the color scheme in a matter of minutes. I've seen a lot of crap "software as a service" peddled over the years, but I'm still shaking my head over this one.

I just read this:

:(

Wow, who posted that? Not Anderton...?

If you do this shit for a living you really should be able to do it, though. I have no design or programming experience....I went to music school and learn what I need about running this place as I need it from books and stuff online. If I can make it this far doing that then what they are doing shouldn't be this big of a deal as far as I'm concerned.

pixelchemist.

pixelchemist.

Wow, that's a shame. The FF extension he made actually made that mess readable.

BTW, the black & grey skin on the vB 4.0 link you posted looks real nice to me. I love the fact that there are different skins to choose from to make everyone happy.

You can have a ton of skins for the users, but then you have to either spend the time putting them together or find ones you like. 4.0 is so new that most of the available styles are either horrendous, geared towards anime and gaming sites or broken by each update as they fix their CSS errors in the templates...I tried to make this look as close to v3.8 (old HC) as much as possible after the carnage that surrounded the first attempt at HC2.0. I'm actually putting off the 4.0.3 update for a few weeks because there are about 10 templates that I know I'm going to have to fix and I'd rather not be doing that while we have so many guest fleeing another sites "broken-ness" :embarrassed:

Maybe in the future I'll make the skins user selectable but I really want stuff thats going to work...

they other thing is that he took it into his own hands to make a positive impact on the situation...more than most have done.

Add to that the fact that he did it in a few days of spare time. The Jive guys have been mucking with it for what, 6 months?

Yeah. I'm just not understanding how things can work that way as far as the decision making process.I think it was pixelchemist and a few other guys who laid out the money at stake in a venture like that and you would think that even if they were thinking of just the bottom line they would protect the biggest asset, which is the information archived on the site, followed by the users need to be able to use the site. I also read in one of the feedback forums that every one of their old Google urls is now broken, which is going to kill their SEO.

They've argued out every point on HC ad infinitum over the last week and it's hard to get excited to go over there and post anything.

its like bad parenting...

HC: take your 2.0 and like it

us: but i dont like 2.0

HC: do it anyway, its good for you

us: but why do we have to do it like this? the old way is better

HC: because i said so!!

fix'd

I thought pixelchemist was out of his gourd for making that effort without pay. I figured he just enjoyed the challenge but to hear him toss it in like that is pretty sad.
I had been trying to hang in there a bit but about the only users who remained were a bunch of HC cheerleaders bitching to hang in there. Everyone else was a bunch of people I'd never seen before The Dark Times.
As cool as that place was, I'm afraid it's gone for good. If it does rebound it won't be the same at all.
RIP HC. It was fun while it lasted.

at least he put his money where his mouth was, though. If anything it should have shamed the people responsible for fixing the mess into action. Whether it did or not is another story.

ok...now I'm starting to get a little pissed off....I'm gonna go back to the song I was writing.

True. I guess I just don't have it in me to go bailing people out who still deny they did anything wrong. Man up to it and I'll lay it out for you. Make shit up and you're on your own.

Ha ha... sounds like a good idea. Can't be getting heartburn over internet forums... :)

srsly

I don't either. I tried to be positive about the who thing and post things like "I'm sure they're going to get it figured out ASAP once they see blah blah balh" but this has been an epic failure from day 1. Fucking sucks.

Hey guys! Nice to see so many friends over here. I'm saddened by the demise of HCEG. There was a lot of great information available there. However, I had started hanging over on TGP a while back. It wasn't because of HC Beta. It just seemed like therr was a lot of anger and negativity that was allowed to linger. It was mostly a few individuals who ruined a once great community. I do miss the energy and vibe of the place. I'm glad to see a lot of my favorite people are over here now.

Thanks Marks for having this site and keeping the gang together,
Ivan.

Hi Ivan! Welcome to the site

I'm not sure if you've read this: http://markweinguitarlessons.com/fo...-I-NEED-EVERYONE-TO-READ-THIS&highlight=light

It's my effort to keep things positive around here :)

I try to start fights but Mark makes me put my nose in the corner until I promise to play nice with the other kids.

It's pretty telling that Anderton's announcement that they are most likely scrapping 2.0 has been posted 4 1/2 hours ago and people are still posting that they want a change made.
The site is so ineffective at communication that the announcements aren't even noticed.
