I’m also an awards-show grinch. I will be interested to see who won some of the categories though.
 
Killer Mike won the 3 big rap awards then was handcuffed and escorted off the premises by the LAPD. Couldn't make it up.

Some sort of kerfuffle with security apparently.
 
Yeah... My wife is a big Taylor Swift fan and she was waiting for an announcement for the "Reputation: Taylor's Version" album... so when Taylor won her 13th Grammy, said it's her lucky number... oh by the way, I have a new album coming out in April... my wife was going nuts and got on her phone.

I was giving her dirty looks when trying to hear Stevie Wonder sing... and she's over on her phone with Tick Tocks of randos responding to the announcement... :annoyed: She said "Sorry, I'm just excited". :tongue:

Didn't watch the entire thing.... Trevor Noah is a fantastic host, pretty much humiliates anyone else that is... obviously... reading... from queue.... cards. Dua Lipa did a great job with her opening number, Billie Eilish and Finneas had a great performance of the ballad from the Barbie Movie.

During the "People We've lost" section, I hear the opening bars of the Prince song "Nothing Compares to You" and tried to remember if Sinnead O'Connor passed away this year (she has).... but it turned out to be Annie Lennox singing... but with Wendy and Lisa on guitar and keys!! :eek: :baimun: That was possibly the highlight of the night for me.
 
I did not and haven't in prolly a couple decades at this point. But I did check on the winners and watch a few clips. I'm so out of the big pop music loop and haven't known most of the artists in the major categories for years. Some good performances.

All award shows are generally in-industry popularity contests. There's a lot of lobbying & politicking that goes into nominations & the voting. We all know that getting nominated or not and winning or not has zero bearing on the quality of the work...most especially music.

Tracy Chapman showed why her voice, and Fast Car, are inseparable and iconic.

I’m not being a hater when I have a hard time listening to the Luke Combs cover.. I respect that he’s a fan of Tracy and the song…. But the quiver between fragility and strength in Tracy’s vocal is what makes the song so epic.



Truthfully... Luke's vocals were better in this live duet than the studio version. Maybe it's the compressed pro-tools way of single recording, maybe it's that he's had more time performing the song live now, but I didn't take any issues to this being a duet.

It was the best Grammy awards show I think I've ever seen. There is a low bar, but there were some fantastic performances and moments last night.
 
Yeah, I've no use for the cover. The song has ALWAYS been universal, but the audience that Luke reaches definitely weren't going to "hear" if from a queer African American woman. The chunky white dude is something with which they're extremely familiar and even comfortable.

I don’t think I’ve ever watch the Grammys. And I haven’t have cable for over a decade, so I won’t watch them in the future, either.

Yep. When my wife and I were driving and heard the cover... I said "I get that this is for a demographic who probably don't understand how epic of a song this is, but to me the song is a trembling voice finding the strength to leave an abusive relationship... and then that voice standing in front of a rowdy Wembly crowd and fucking OWNING that stage." :baimun:
