Blues/Country Board May Get Overhaul - Again...

Here is a pic of my Blues/Country board at it's first incarnation.

Since then, the Rotovibe has been removed and the Plush Drive removed. Next to go will probably be my Modded TS-9 [back dated TS808] and replaced with my Xotic AC Booster that has been in storage. After seeing Allen Hinds small Gator board, I may be contemplating getting an EB Volume Jr. to use as well for better foot control rather than using just the volume knob and I can put the tuner into the tuner port of the volume pedal where as not effecting the signal chain.

I want to add the Wampler Ego Compressor but will wait. Why? The weather is getting warmer so I can paint my BYOC Comp case and use that first. Gotta print the decal as well. Contemplating a Delay too but may scrounge my MXR Carbon Copy from the other board and replace that later with the TC. Sigh....Time to flip unnecessary product.

Nice. Seeing as how we play similar music, I'll have to post my new board too. Waiting on my Loop Master to arrive today and then I'll have the latest greatest version built~

I am actually working on the style of old country. After years of playing rock, metal and some fusion with a touch of classical, I have been more focused on straight ahead jazz, blues, rockabilly and country (old). I have an affinity for modern country already but not all artists. Hence three pedal boards . One is for the first group of styles, the one shown above for blues and country and the last one is for my solo acoustic work. Like yourself, I love DG and Paisley!

Here is a pic from about 1993 when I met the master at NAMM.

I primarily play music of the 50's. Almost exclusively. I just picked up a new more modern country gig, hence the pedals. I generally only use an echo, reverb, and trem pedal. It's been fun the last couple weeks building a board, horse trading for some new gear, and playing through it though.

I thought about a loop station and really still thinking about one, primarily for my boost pedals. How is it working for you? The Ego Comp in the right corner is not helping my GAS Adam!

Here is the board until this morning.

Here is the current setup. My AC Booster has replaced my TS9 and I added the MXR Delay by stealing off of my other board since I am not using it currently. Eventually a Slap-Back will go there. I still want to add the compressor and maybe an EB Volume JR

Got to use my board yesterday during my jam/semi rehearsal. I like the AC much better than my TS9 for now. I don't hear the midrange bump and just enough gain to make me dangerous. I was running the board through my newly built Tweed Deluxe clone. Got some coupling caps coming to get rid of the farting which really wasn't that bad overall but I want a cleaner signal and improve head room when I bring the guitars volume knob down. I am still playing around with the thoughts of an EB Volume Jr but may try my standard one to see if I want to do it or not. At time during when we played, I was crying for a wah and may add one instead of a volume knob. I don't use the wah a lot but love it when I do need it. I like this setup and I do need a comp to make it country compatible.

The overhaul has happened. Picked up the Wampler Ego Compressor thanks to video's, Brad Paisley and Adam Lopez. This pedal is totally cool and well worth every penny!

Did you swap it because the Aqua Puss has a shorter delay range? I ask because with the shorter delay range you can dial the short as well as longer slapbacks with more accuracy.

Actually, yes that's part of the reason, and just what you mentioned is what I found out. With it having basically half the delay time of the CC, the whole thing is a lot easier to dial in as the increments on the pot aren't so close together. It makes for far more useable short delay times.

I also found the tone of it be more suitable. The repeats are crisper without sounding digital or high fi.

Have you tried the Wampler Faux Analog Echo? Just curious.

I wonder about that regarding the Aquapuss. Came across a video yesterday of Paisley's gear and he too used the Aquapuss on this particular tour on both his main and backup systems during his 2010 tour.

I am going to wait to replace my CC as I have some gear still to flip and the CC works for me now. I have been thinking about the TC Flashback as it has switchable ranges for delay. Great for my general purpose board but not this one. The Wampler intrigues me though mostly because of the compact size. That is why I want a TC and will stick with my CC for now. I may even squeeze a Wah on this board as well

Ay - more cords to build to get the right configuration.

I rarely want more delay time than the AP offers. I have found cool ways to fake longer delay times though by running my reverb after the AP and dialing it in just right.

My need for longer delays just come from the other styles of music that I play. However this board is only focused to Blues and Country. While some blues plays use delay, 98% of time I don't so it for country usage only. I don't recall longer delay times for country is necessary that 300ms, in fact that IMO is too long. My Hall of Fame has a lofi setting that I can use for quickslap back ie: Mystery Train so I am good. Just using the CC right now for about that 40-80ms slapback along with basic swelling (1-3 repeats).

Got a chance to add the TC Flashback to the board yesterday and get some practice in as well before eating dinner and heading to the gym. My goodness this pedal smokes! I may need to get another one for my other board (all purpose and flip the CC, no Aquapuss for me at all). The combinations of the Wampler and the TC is fantastic. Kick in a boost here and there and it is magic. The Wampler is just way too awesome and I no longer have the squish anymore. Now I just need to improve my chickin' pickin' ala Vince Gill and Brad Paisley with a twist of Jerry Donahue!

Eventually I will get around to doing a demo of my board. Just busy with other things and life.
