Help! Baritone Jam

I’m in need of a baritone for some low end chugga chugga songs I’m playing in the new band.

I’m currently borrowing a Danelectro Hodad. It sounds fantastic but the long neck (30”) and thick ass strings are going to destroy my wrist and shoulder over time. And the single coils plus high gain is super noisy.

I need to find a decent baritone with buckers, a shorter scale that still chugga chugga’s, fixed bridge, and can be reliable for gigs.

So far the @reverend1 Descent seems ok but I need to find one in person to check out.

there’s a super cool baritone by Halo on reverb but it’s way too much $$


I need suggestions fellas!
 
I'm always on the razors edge of getting a bari. At the moment, I've got a band mate I can borrow one from. If I take the plunge, I might very well just buy a bari conversion neck and put it on a body with the specs I want rather than trying to find the right baritone.
 
One inexpensive option if you have an extra partscaster... grab a Warmoth Baritone conversion neck.

I can tell you first hand the 28+" scale is set up so the 2nd fret is 25 1/2"... so I make that E, the aprox 27" 1st fret is Eb, and the open is D.

Otherwise... this is a killer deal at $330 (I might consider grabbing one myself).

i have a little devil @baimun sitting on my shoulder at the moment. is anyone aware of converting a les paul special into a baritone by moving the tail piece further back (towards the strap button) on the body? that would obviously increase the string length. but what sorts of side effects would one run into? slapping on strings any bigger than 12's would require a different nut or opening up the nut slots. what else? would 12's be thick enough?

What? This is like the tuning a piano to open G thread. The intonation would be completely off.
 
I’ve played a number of Rev Descents in shops because, I too, am almost always close to getting a Baritone. They’re nice and really playable.

what was your take on the tone? in the youtube vids i've seen they sound a little neutral/blah. the Dano hodad i'm borrowing has a killer twangy growl, but it's just murdering my left hand and wrist.
 
I have one of these. It’s pretty cool because I can turn on the Sustainiac, hit a low note, and just stand there listening to it until I fall asleep or the battery runs out.
