Best line ever...
Years ago I thought it was talent and luck... but then I started realizing how many uber-talented guys are out there that nobody knows about and how many average talent guys are working it every week. I quickly realized how much grind and work is necessary and some of those people are really talented and some aren't. Some know their limitations and out work everyone who is more talented or happened into something because of someone they know.
Then there's the hustle... constant promotion and networking... it's rowing upstream. I've seen really talented bands with good followings take breaks and fall completely off the map. Then it's even harder for them as venue owners and staff changes, or in many cases venues that they used to play disappear and new ones take their place.
But if we love the music enough and are willing to do this work, or partner with someone who you can share the workload.... you can get those 5 minutes in the spotlight. Sometimes that's like a drug... it makes you want to hustle and work even harder for your next fix.... but unlike a drug, it doesn't tear you down. It builds you up. No matter what, nobody can take away the music you made or the joy you made others feel.
Cudos to all of these guys still grinding it out and rocking people's faces off.
