If I were to give in to temptation I would probably replace the bridge, nut, and pickups.Probably cheap ass chinese parts, but certainly could be a fun project, especially at that price point.
I've had some TERRIBLE tuners that still held tune. Of course I'm from school of thought that you always tune up to pitch, regardless of the quality of tuner. These days you have to try hard to fuck up a sealed tuner, too.and tuners.
If the body and neck are decent it's probably worth the money. The other parts are probably garbage though.
Grain of salt disclaimer: I've never built a guitar in my life. I'd like to though.
Nope. That's why a lot of people have tuning issues. They tune down to pitch and the whiplash or the fears lets things slack out again afterwards.wait, you mean people tune DOWN to get to pitch?!?
where's the fuckin' logic in that?
I've never been told to do it that way, but it just makes sense...tuning up.
I'll drop the A to a Gb and then crank it up.
if it's sharp, it goes to Gb anyways, then up to A
I assumed this was common practice.
it's not?
Actually, that's my preferred nut width.1 5/8 nut width is too narrow for me.

I don't expect it to be pretty. The guy over on Halen.com actually got THAT EXACT KIT that was photographed. He's turning it into a Shark, so it's getting cut up, but he appeared to be happy with it.I'm thinking that awful glue seam on the body, two piece neck heel and splotches of glue and whatever else plainly visible on the body and neck in those pics are a pretty good indication of the quality of the neck and body
It does look nice. I've already got two Teles, though, an no Explorer.I would be more inclined to go this direction, even with the you-know-what:
