Anything Beat The Iphone?

Elias Graves

Common misfit
I currently have a blackberry and it's damn crude in comparison to Mrs G's Iphone 4.
Haven't used any of the other smartphones. How do they stack up? I'll be getting a new one soon.

I love my iPhone. The only Droid experience I have is with my Father-in-laws phone and while you have more control over what you can alter I don't dig it as much.

ok, serious answer. i've had an Android for two years while i waited for the iPhone to come to Verizon. now that my contract is up, and the iPhone is on Verizon, i might actually end up switching to AT&T when the next version comes out. Verizon isn't giving me any incentive to stay. and Android can't run programs like iRig and Garageband. so whatever.

how is the service for AT&T in NY though? I thought that was the main issue?

plus if you share an Apple account any app that your wife has paid for you can install on your phone for free.

the problem with AT&T was that the entire system was bogged down by the iPhone. now that it's on other carriers, the load is a bit lighter. also, AT&T and Verizon have been building their LTE networks in NYC, so that's helping the data crunch as well.

I switched from a BB to the iPhone and I like it a lot.

I just got an Android tablet for some work-related experiments and so far, I'm not digging it at all. I have to give it some more time to be fair, though.
It's got the latest version of OS on it, too. I expected to be wowed. My grandson likes the Spiderman game that was pre-loaded on it...

thats cool. AT&T wasn't as bad here as I thought it would be, but the actual phone service is not as good as Verizon. The data seems a little better on my older iPhone 4 than my wife gets on her 4s though.

I read a review of one of the new Samsung tablets with Ice Cream Sandwich on it and it sounded a little underwhelming. Being half the price of the iPad isn't such a bad deal though.

I hated the blackberry.... jumped on the first Droid when it came out.

Gave the iPhone serious SERIOUS consideration when it finally came to Verizon, but the fact that they still didn't have voice guided navigation was a deal breaker for me. I bought the Droid 3 instead.

When Siri came out and people started freaking out... "You can TALK to your phone and it will do stuff..." I hated to sound like those "so 30 second ago people, but was puzzled because I've been able to do that since Droid 1.

Now on my Droid 3, I pick up the phone and say "Text Kelly".... a text box will pop up for my wife... I dictate the message, make sure it didn't translate anything too weird... and hit send.

If I need to go someplace, I can say something like "Navigate to Millenium Machinery, South Bend Indiana" and it brings up the navigation along with color coded highways based on their current traffic flow. It then starts verbally navigating "Continue on US 20 for 3 miles..."

Pretty much anything I want to google or program I want to launch, I hit one button and talk to it.

Really, I don't get what is so special about Siri at this point other than it reading back the web results in a pseudo personality voice.

Also, unless the new iPhone has gorilla glass, expect to break it at some point. I've put both of my droids through some serious abuse and the worst thing that ever happend was I had to replace the battery on my first one (under warranty, pop open a panel on the back... the iPhone is all sealed shut.)

I'd say half of my iPhone friends have cracked or completely shattered an iPhone glass at some point. I thought I read that the new 4S addresses that but I'm not sure.

I love using the slide out keyboard on the Droid 3 for long emails, but if you didn't need that the Razr would be my next choice (Gorilla Glass and Kevlar back).

I have a Samsung Galaxy S on T-Mobile. I had an iPhone 3GS for approx 1.5 years before that. Is the Samsung better than the iPhone? Not in my opinion, but I also don't feel that I am suffering from a loss of features or functionality with the Samsung either. As with Baimun, I can do voice searches and calling, too. My main gripe is that Temple Run sucks on Android.

I gave my old iPhone to my wife because it is a very friendly user experience and she is not as tech-saavy as me.

So what's the question?

With exception of guitar rig and the like, Android is simply better.

Everything BAIMUN said is accurate.

I have an iPhone 4 that fell off my amp on a gig and that I inadvertently jumped up and down on for about half a set with all 270 lbs of me without breaking. That should say quite a bit about the durability of the current generation of iPhones right there :embarrassed:

Also, I'd like to clarify that I don't play games on my phone... I don't download hundreds of apps. I use it for a phone (you'd be surprised how poor some smartphones are as a phone), Corporate and Google email, Texting, navigation, looking up places and data, Remote Desktop capabilities (RDP), Citrix connections, and as a camera.

We do have iPods and an iPad in the house though.... I would consider getting another iPad for using with guitar, but not with any 3G or 4G phone plan, just wifi.
