Wow...saw this on autotrader. :spit:

No.

Flat paint jobs seem to be becoming cool for some reason. I don't like them much.

Neighbor's Envy Owner's Pride!
This car makes heads turn around -- you won't find a similar 2003 Porsche 911 Carrera Convertible 2D. Flawless exterior finished in Flat Black Vinyl Wrap (with orange trim). Car has been lowered and spacers have been installed on 'orange' wheels to give the car a more sporty look! More than $15,000 were spent to replace several parts after Porsche's recommended 75,000 miles maintenance check. This included all 4 tires, brake pads/sensors/rotors, alternator, engine lifters, ignition switch, wiper blades, turn signal switch, etc. These enhancements make the car very reliable and it drives like NEW!! Serviced at Porsche's Authorized Service Center and all maintenance records available. Spotless Black leather interior, equipped with Cruise Control, Heated Seats, All Power Options, and a host of other premium amenities. No Accidents, Non Smoker, Very clean interior and Very well maintained. Private seller ready to sell TODAY! Excellent Choice!!! You won't be disappointed! Call or email for additional information.

I don't like the orange outline at all. The door handles and mirrors are ridiculous. I could live with the flat paint, but I wouldn't want to.

This is want he was trying to imitate.

That scares the hell out of me. The car is obviously beat. None of this stuff should need to be replaced at 75,000. (/sensors/rotors, alternator, engine lifters, ignition switch, turn signal switch, etc). What's wrong with the paint that you would vinyl wrap a Porsche? What a dickbag, that guy that did that to that car should be beat with a rubber hose. Fucking moron.

I felt a great disturbance in the force...... as if Ferdinan Porsche was crying out from beyond the grave.....

Actually, the pads, rotors and sensors should be on their third or fourth replacement set by then.

It's not an old Buick. Replacement of all 3 of those items (per wheel) is a normal and required "brake job" on that car (and every other Porsche, BMW, and Mercedes made in the last 15+ years).

And, if you get more than 20K miles out of a set of brakes on that car, you need to surrender the keys and your man card to Betty White.

As for the lifters, Porsche had a known problem there, and they should have been replaced under warranty, however I am guessing that the warranty years had expired before this ass hat found out about it.

The switch, again typical Porsche, no surprise there.

As for the mods to the car, this guy needs his ass beat.

Wheel spacers!?!?!?

They're a good way to kill yourself or someone else when the lug-studs snap and send the wheel flying like an unguided missile.

The guy is clearly a douche, but I had to clarify that some of those things don't play into his doucheness.

I never had to replace the speed sensors in my car, or the lifters for that matter. I had one of the last air cooled engines so maybe that's why. Brake pads and rotors are normal wear and tear items, no argument there at all. I had a '94 and a '74.

The ad doesn't say anything about speed sensors.

The brake pads have a magnetic sensor clipped to them that once the pads wear close enough to the rotors, the sensor turns your dummy light on in the dash that says "brakes".

They are a separate part from the pads and rotors, but need to be replaced in conjunction with them.

Again, Mercedes, BMW and others have also been using them for decades.

They are cheap, and don't add much to the cost of the overall job.

Savvy owners can get them from euro specialty parts houses for 10-15 bucks each.

I assumed that the wheel speed sensor was what he was talking about. I had to replace a wheel speed sensor once when I had a driver front blowout and lunched the wheel against a curb. The sensor cost almost as much as a new wheel and tire. Pad wear sensor didn't occur to me.

You want flat black? Go get a few rattle cans of primer and have at it.

This is what happens when a young guy with some $ gets ahold of a nice car.

There's a new thing to do with cars called dipping.

It's exactly the same concept as Plasti-Dip that puts the covering on tools like pliers and such, except that you spray it on and it can be removed.

Most of the colours are flat. Gloss costs extra.

In fact Plasti-Dip is one of the products used.

Alsa is another one. http://www.alsacorp.com/paint_wrap/paint_wrap.html

Here are some examples.

And here's a bumper done in the chrome version of this stuff.
Yes. That's paint!

I can see it as a cool way to protect a car from the elements a bit while altering the look.

It does seem like the way to go for changing the look of rims.

You could do a whole car for less than $1000.
And you could brush it on if you had to!!

I've got 2 cans of PlastiDip for my Mustang wheels, I was going to try that look on them.

So, when you're tired of it, you can peel the whole car?

Yep.

About the only thing you want to be careful about is defining the edge.

I read about one guy that had more of a spattery fade along the edge and it took him forever to catch an edge and start peeling. Other than that, apparently it goes just like the website says.

The thing about Porsche's is they are meant to be driven, not looked at. You are evaluating with entirely the wrong criteria. Of course, arguably the same could be said for some of these guitars we judge on looks.
