A Safe Space to Discuss “Radiohead”.

For a while, it seemed like what Radiohead was doing was super interesting and important. And I still really enjoy Kid A when I remember to listen to it. But in general, I’m just not super motivated to spend time with their stuff. They now seem more like a venerable, respectable cultural institution than a rock band whose new work (or old work for that matter) legitimately excites me. I mean, I don’t even consider buying a ticket when they come to town.

If you look at Apple music Radiohead they have listed 4...FOUR essential albums. That is about 2 nore essential albums than anyone else. I mean Bowie has 6 essential album but he was around a lot longer.

The Bends, OK Computer, Kid A and In Rainbows all fantastic albums that hold up to repeated listening. OK Computer might be the definitive album and most important album of the 90's. They were basically telling the at the time personal computer "Hey buddy shut the fuck up I'M in control here...not you...OK Mr. Computer...dig!"

I’m visualizing 1995 Heel sitting in his VW GTI in the Tower Records parking lot struggling to remove the plastic from his The Bends CD. His next stop is the 7-Eleven for a pack of Phillys and a six pack of Zima. A light snow is falling...

I love Radiohead but In Rainbows is one of my least favorite. I put them on shuffle when I'm cooking and rarely tell Echo to skip.
 
I was totally unaware of the whole Radiohead phenomenon during the 90s, because I was more concerned with things like real life. I have become aware of them since, but when I listen I have to admit to be rather befuddled as to why they are so widely admired. That is all.
 
OK Computer was like the Sgt Peppers of the 90s. Kid A and Amnesiac were groundbreaking albums and equally amazing. The Bends has two of their best commercial songs ever.

Bands are only worth talking about when you focus on the work they're really known for. I couldn't give a care what Radiohead, The Cure, My Bloody Valentine, etc has done in the last 20 years. It's not what they're known for. Everyone has to make a living, even after your muse has left.
