2018 Formula One Thread

Once again, Ferrari outqualifies Mercedes! Hopefully Seb can keep the pace during the race.

I don't know what Hartley was thinking. Driving down the middle of the track with a puncture is profoundly stupid. He's lucky Gasly was able to avoid him. That would have been seriously ugly.

That was the most bizarre finish I have ever seen in Formula 1. I find it odd that just about every race has had an incident this year. I'm starting to wonder if Liberty is following NASCAR'S path and going WWE with the sport.

It wasn't much of a race. They should get rid of that last chicane at the end of the lap. At least that would allow them to get closer to each other on front straight.

Grosjean is going to lose that seat if he keeps up these stupid antics. There a lot of other good drivers available.

McLaren are still way behind. They should abandon this car and start working on next year's car.

Mercedes have shown there true colors. They will win both championships this year. Ferrari keep making too many mistakes, and it now appears they have reliability issues too. Engine penalties will cost them in the WCC

That was boring. Looks like we're back to watching Hamilton disappear into the distance.

I don't see how getting rid of the last chicane would help. It would go back to being a fast corner that would prevent drivers from closely following.

Grosjean was doing OK when he Haas first started, but he's looking more and more like a liability. When he's not whining about brakes, he's crashing. I think he'll be gone by the end of the season. It shouldn't be too hard to find someone better than him with money.

McLaren's story the last few seasons has been, "Our chassis is the best out there, we just need a decent engine." Either they've been leapfrogged, or they were full of shit.

Ricciardo finally gets his Monaco win! Epic drive with an engine that was down on power. I thought his goose was cooked when the VSC happened, but it actually helped him.

Congratulations to Ricciardo on getting the win at Monaco. It was also a nice recovery drive for Max, but Red Bull could have had so much more if he hadn't crashed in FP3. Monaco seems to be his Kryptonite.

Monaco sucked. Possibly the worst race in history. The Kiki/Nico lap was more interesting. next year they should just follow the pace car for 70 laps. It won't be anymore boring.

Modern F1 cars don't belong on that track anymore. I think it's there because it's a glam race and the drivers and teams probably love going there to party and hangout.

It's where they wine and dine the sponsors. The concierge and business wings of the teams skip the Spanish GP entirely, instead they head to Monaco early to have more time to set-up events.

But to be fair, Monaco is probably the most technical track of the circuit for the drivers, and overtaking in the top 6 or so doesn't happen on any track anymore.

I agree that it's a technical track but feel that given the width of today's cars and some of the other factors passing is virtually impossible at Monaco, as opposed to only somewhat impossible on all the other tracks :P

Well, once again we had a snoozer. I'm surprised because the track configuration with the long straights everywhere should have been conducive to more overtaking opportunities, but it seems like no one could get around anyone. The race was pretty much decided in qualifying.

I have a feeling Alonso is done after this season. McLaren are going nowhere and no other top team wants him. He will win Le Mans this year and then move to IndyCar next year.

Yeah, pretty boring race.

I'd love to see Alonso in IndyCar or LMS. Velocity is broadcasting the entire Le Mans race this year in the US!

I thought the race was pretty good from 3rd down on the grid. If they ditched the chicane on the Mistral straight they could even get rid of the DRS since the following car would get a pretty good tow. And there was one turn where Bottas made some very nice passes a few times.

Rumor mill has Kimi out at Ferrari with his seat going to Charles LeClerc from Sauber. It is on all the racing sites on the web as all but a done deal.

A pretty decent race at Austria. Lots of attrition for mechanical failures! Congrats to Max, but I feel bad for Captain Smiley, out on his birthday!

Great result for Haas, 4th and 5th. They looked strong and were the best of the rest.

That was a good race. It had all the elements to make it interesting throughout. Strategy, pace and reliability were factors in the outcome of the race, and you didn't know who was going to win until the checkered flag flew. Best GP of the year so far.
