Question: anyone have unreasoning hatred for a particular brand of thing?

Sometimes it's a mental image thing.... Like for me, Peavey is synonymous with "The cheap crap that you play in a garage band until you can afford 'real' gear" even though I've played a few Peavey guitars that were quite nice and Prages owns the best sounding Peavey amp I've ever heard, even side by side with others of the same model.
I respect the hell out of Hartley Peavey and the way he brought usable gear to the everyman, but I can't bring myself to use any Peavey gear... ever.
I'm sure that PRS guitars conjure some feelings of "Doctor or Lawyer guitars" for many folks because they've always had a high price tag and are known for their cosmetics... even though companies like Carvin, ESP, and Dean have made a killing off of their "triple quilty pearl and flame" packages. The things I personally like about PRS are the strat/LP hybrid with improved ergonomics like the scale length, quality lightweight locking tuners, a trem bridge that doesn't have any sharp edges, etc. I don't even like quilts or flames with hideous colors stained on them. I like natural exotic woods.
I'm also at THAT point with Line 6 gear. I've owned several different beans and racks, a couple different amps and even a floor board. I just can't do it anymore. Everything always promises the moon, then delivers a shiny cardboard cutout of the moon, and after a while the edges of that cardboard begin to wear out and you can see and feel the cheap build quality.
Actually.... I'm realizing right this second how important tactile quality is to me. I only buy pedals that are in metal cases. I hate things with cheap push buttons and digital watch-like LCD displays. I want something that feels like it was built my a Mercedes engineer, not by Matchbox toys.

it's solid as fuck
you can imagine what a bass goes thru during one of our gigs.
I'm drunk as shit, sloppy, and abusive
and it's held up.
but it's also the only Peavey out of the 5 or 6 I've owned that I kept for more than a month or two.
it's not the high-end stuff, more like mid-range, I guess. I believe it was about $800 with case, after tax. probably would be closer to $600 in your location, I guess
but it's served me well.
I think part of my PRS issue is that the only ones I've seen up here were all over $3K
and frankly, if the guitar doesn't give hummers for that price, I don't fuckin' care who made it
I'm willing to bet if I found one for, say, $600, I might have a change of heart.
but we don't seem to get those up here.

I will have to add that I've seen more bass players have good luck with Peavey Gear than guitar players.
With PA equipment, the horns were more likely to blow up than the woofers, so I'm sure that favors bass players as well.
Yeah, Peeker... my first PRS brand new cost me $1800..... from then on I've always bought used so I've never spent north of 2K on any PRS gear (I currently own 2 USA made PRS guitars and have owned 4 others in the past).
I have really liked every Suhr guitar I've ever played, but those are difficult to find (even used) south of 2K.

For me, they're local (maybe 50 miles away, if that). But I get no local discount. :(But like everything else, it's all a matter of taste. For instance, I love a flamey PRS, but I have no interest in a flamey LP (prefer plain tops). I also love a good relic, and I'm surprised that the Fender Custom shop hasn't been mentioned yet. I don't own any, but I would in a heartbeat if money wasn't a concern.

the Peavey amps I've owned, all the gutar amps were dogs, but the bass amps were solid, though usually not loud enough (that's my fault for getting the wrong one, we do play at Motorhead volumes for jam)

I'm kind of the opposite. I LOVE the Peavey amps I've played.
The only Peavey guitars I've really loved are the Wolfgangs, and I've got a Millennium Plus bass that's a really solid bass.
My Peavey Classic 30 is still my favorite amp ever, though.

Those were the Peavey guitars that I really liked. Not the imports, but the US ones. They're in a whole different league than anything else that Peavey ever made. Probably the best gear with their logo on it.

ran it thru a Fender (guessing here) 2x15, and a homemade 4x10, I think
it's been a while, memory ain't so great
I can post clips from that recording if anyone wants to listen to it
either way, the whole fuckin' thing shit the bed at a gig, and I got stuck using someone else;s rig, which I was totally unable to get my sound from...nice clean funk type tone
