So I'm spending my afternoon learning songs for a new gig....

That's the main reason why I pay for spotify. Even if no one uses it they have access to the music when they need it, we all are working off the same versions and I can listen and review while I'm at the gym :embarrassed:

I wish we had the internet when I was really gigging. We didn't do a ton of covers, but sometimes we would just figure out the tune from hearing it on the radio a few times and trying to remember how it went.

The Internet, smart phones, recent advances in software and social media have completely changed what being a gigging or even a student musician is all about. So many resources I wish I had when I started out a quarter century ago.

The flip side of that is the abundance of tab and youtube "tutorials" on songs make some people lazy with poor ears.

Almost every arrangement I find for a song online is incomplete or doesn't incorporate enough of the song's groove or nuances. They're like cliff notes of the song.

That allows me to "Chad" up the tune :embarrassed:

Not to mention that a lot of them are just plain wrong.

Last night was a good rehearsal. three straight hours no breaks and we got through the whole nights worth of music and a few new songs. I think the gig is going to go pretty good. :)
