This.....in spades.

Yeah. Not the first time that has happened either. He's just the kind of guy who get's himself into weird stuff like that.
None, as my band project spectacularly imploded over the weekend. I might have to go out and do some solo shows.![]()
what happened?

Band leader called a meeting, because "we" were offered a "recording contract" by the guy who USED to run the indie label he had been signed to. Apparently the guy is heading up a new label and wants us to be his "first Rock act." Meeting starts late because bassist didn't show up and when we called him he said he was busy working on his cars and was going to quit the band anyway. Band leader is pissed off, but we run with the meeting anyway. Band leader is talking about how great a moment this is and how we need to deepen our commitment, work harder, etc. I voice skepticism about a guy who wants to buy an unproven, unfinished product and am told to stop being negative. I say if anything it's just a needlessly complicated distribution deal, nothing we couldn't do on our own. We agree to revisit the issue when the contract actually arrives, then end with feel good vibes and affirmations of how driven we'll be from this point forward.
Big practice/recording session is set for Saturday, but drummer cancels on Friday afternoon. Band leader is pissed off, questions his commitment to the band, accuses him of blowing us off to rehearse with his other band, and wants to know why he even bothers with us, since we're not his primary genre. I try to calm them down, but it doesn't go well. Next thing I know the band leader fires the drummer and tells me that he's auditioning another drummer, plus he's got our old drummer "lined up" just in case. Old drummer and I do not get along at all... we're talking fistfights. Then the contract shows up and sure enough, it's a glorified distribution deal with lousy terms. I point this out and now I'm the bad guy and suddenly I get a text about "i'm thinking about splitting up the project and maybe it would be better to do your own thing while figure out what direction we go in." Dude's been my friend and semi-regular bandmate for ten years and he pulls this weak shit.
I'm about ready to hang up my guitar and go back to the fucking kitchen.![]()
Hehe. Why can't people just show up, play music, have fun, get paid?

Sorry for all you guys with the band politics. That is one reason I am a solo performer.
On my new CD I did four tracks that combine music with my wife's poems. She okayed all four tracks; I sent them to Andy. Afterward she decided she didn't like two of them.
Luckily, I convinced her to keep one of them and Andy was nice enough to agree to work on the replacement for the other. This reminded me, however, of how nice it is to have control over my music.![]()
I freakin' hate band politics....
You should rope in your sister to do some acoustic shows with you if she isn't too busy with the theater stuff....

Working with Katie is actually more frustrating.![]()

But she plays drums.

Winnipeg/Brandon
though the place we're s'posed to play in Brandon caught fire yesterday.
it's a hotel.
fire was on 3rd floor, I believe confined to one room.
shouldn't affect the gig at all.
all bars here are attached (though not always physically) to a hotel, jsyk.
otherwise, it's a nightclub, and the hours have to be different.
back when I lived in Brandon, this hotel's beer store was where I shopped most of the time.
I've been in the bar itself a total of 4 times, maybe, once for a gig.
it's a fuckin' shithole.
bad enough that I wouldn't frequent the place, though it was right close to home.
You could tell people that she is your ex-wife!v
