What is your favorite record guitar tone?

I long for the day when metal guitar players finally figure out that that their guitar is not a bass.
Add some fucking mids and turn down the bass, and like magic they'll suddenly cut through the mix.

It's scary how many don't understand that simple concept. gah

Some good stuff so far, and I don't know if it's my absolute FAVORITE, but I LOVE the guitar tone on Social Distortion's Somewhere Between Heaven and Hell, and, duh, Social Distortion.

this video of warren haynes is my favorite live les paul tone i've heard along with one of the best live solos ive ever heard, and ironically its not his standard set-up (of which i love as well)

I'll get made fun of for this, but the guitars on Green Day's American Idiot are the tone I try to go for. It just sounds so powerful without being overly distorted or fuzzy.
