My Fractal FM-3 thread.

New video - I have this set up as an instant premier if folks want to discuss today but it's all about my experiences setting up the Fractal FM3 to play live and how it worked out on the gig:

Thanks for putting up the video. Learned a lot about the workflow to get sounds.
No problem. I think it's probably a little boring for most people but I thought just talking my way through the sounds might be constructive for folks who are just getting their feet wet.

Awesome video!! Thanks for putting it up. You convinced me. I am gonna get one. Not right now because I just invested a bunch of money in a camera and a backpack full of lenses. I need to sell some stuff but here is the thing. I have a pile of pedals and speakers that are not getting used. I need to just get rid of the stuff I don't use. If I do that I should be able to fund one. Keep an eye in the spam board in the coming weeks.

You have an FM3 + FC6. Would you rather have an FM9? I am not clear on the exact differences.

Thanks! I'm glad you liked it. I'm kind of at the same place with the piles of unused gear at this point in my life. I'm still keeping a bunch of stuff that I might need but the FM3 rig covers a lot of ground. I would rather have an FM9 and that is what I would have bought but the wait list (which I am on) is probably a year long because of supply chain issues. I especially would rather have the FM9 for the extra processing power that would allow more than one amp and one cabinet block per preset, but its just not available and the used market for the FM9 has gone "King of Tone".

I should probably look at getting on that wait list. I will def keep a traditional amp rig(s). I have some amps I just can't get rid of now due to emotional attachments. Plus, I need to get my hands on the Fractal and learn it before even considering moving any amps. My biggest problem in terms of space is speakers. I am a total speaker slut and of course have lots of cabs to go along with them. I have 4 Scholz I will never part with. What the hell do I do with my beloved Tony Tubby's? I love them but haven't played through them in maybe a year. The list is long. I have multiple Scumbacks, Celestions, Webers, WGS, ughhhhhhhh, lol. In theory the Fractal should be able to replace them but again I have sentimental attachments I will need to break.

Hey, another question. You are using the EV monitor for gigs and going direct when recording (I assume). Have you tried any other setups you are happy with? I want this mostly for recording. However, I am going to see how it behaves with my Powerstation. I can use it as a preamp going into the power amp of the Powerstation or I could stick it in the loop and use a traditional amp. The more I think of possible uses the more this seems like an extremely powerful tool.

I'm down to one "never sell" amp but I totally get the feeling. I think everyone should own a good tube amp in addition to the Fractal but I just don't need that much stuff anymore. I just don't have a good excuse to own any of it. :(

I haven't really tried anything else. I do know some folks that will use their favorite amp as a power amp and cabinet on stage and shut off the cabinet blocks though.

I did it. I ordered one. I would much rather have the fm9 after researching it but I am not waiting a year and figured I would just go ahead and get the fm3 just in case they become unavailable. Thanks again for all the great info Mark!!!

No problem! Let me know if you have any questions. I also have a playlist with some of the videos that I found most useful..

ok...I took a a chance and downloaded the new 5.02 firmware and it has the AxeFX III "CNFB" amp modeling (whatever that is) and everything sounds a bit better and more "real". In the three months Ive had this thing it has gone through two firmware upgrades that have each improved the sound of the unit a small amount. Crazy.

Firmware updates are the digital world's answer to tube rolling. :)
