Talk about it.

When I started, everything was better with weed. I slowly realized that there was no there, there. I sometimes think about going to the dispensary to try one of the low THC/highCBD blends.

What kind of negative effects are you seeing in Colorado?
The only downside I've seen so far is there are people who don't obey the restriction on public smoking of mj and fire up in public spaces. That's one aspect of rec use that Oregon is tying to figure out how to modify....Tourists are at a disadvantage when they are staying at a non smoking place and only have public space to smoke it in

Edit} there's also been some robberies of dispensaries since they are stuck dealing in all cash transactions since the banks won't do business with them

I last had some about 5 years ago. After that, breathing was difficult for 3 days due to the inhaled smoke. I haven't touched it since and have no intentions to. I'll consider edibles and oils once I know more about how they interact with the psych meds I'm on. My psychiatrist recommended that I try ketamine infusions, but insurance won't cover the cost because it's considered experimental. I suppose I could just buy special K on the street. But I have a lot of problems with that idea. So I'll pass on the illegals for the time being.

My psychiatrist does the ketamine infusions too. Insurance won't cover it here either, but I'm considering saving up for it and trying it, as he feels it could eliminate a lot of my daily medication needs.

I haven't since I was 17. I joined the Marines then, they would not have approved.

I'm not quite sure what the extent of hassle I'd get in work if they found out a teacher smoked - that being said I see a lot more examples of teachers who drink too much doing a piss poor job than the odd clear as the light of day smoker you come across.

With that being said, theoretically in a UK where it was legal, I'd indulge socially.

The line in their with the 17 year old kid saying drug dealers don't care who they sell to is one of the big reasons I have always been for legalization. When I was in middle school and throughout high school, I smoked pot way more than I drank. Why? I couldn't walk into 7-11 and buy beer, but the guy in the jean jacket out front of 7-11 pretending to talk on the pay phone would sell me pot all day long. When drugs are illegal, people selling it are already breaking the law, so they don't care who they sell to and there is no step in the process where a person verifies you are old enough. With them legal, that step is put in place. Sure you can try to find someone of age to buy it for you, but now you are asking someone who isn't normally breaking the law to break it for you.

Three main issues....

1. Increased DUIs. Not as big of an increase as you might have expected, but there has been an increase tied to high driving. I drive a lot and ANYTHING that contributes to distracted driving (texting, pot, pain meds, booze, putting on makeup while driving on the highway) pisses me off. When you are driving - DRIVE.

2. Despite what the Gov said in the article Howie quoted above, there has been an increase in teen pot usage, and a big increase in pot related teen problems. I have several friends who teach in local high schools and Jr High Schools. At the high school my kids all attended the suspension/expulsion rate this year is more than triple the normal rate and the root cause is underage pot usage (suspensions) and pot selling (expulsions). There are also increased behavioral problems since teens just are not good with decision making and ingesting a lot of very strong pot is not a good contributing factor.

3. Increased pot addictions. I know this is a 'controversial' issue, but I know people who are/have been addicted to pot. It might be more a psychological addiction than a physical one, but it is very real.

I do think that the issues overall are actually less than a lot of people anticipated, but particularly the problems in the Jr High and HS level are worrisome.

I don't get the concept that weed turns you into a loser burnout in the same sense that I don't think alcohol turns you into a puke covered piss stained gutter hobo......sure both have consequences if abused but abuse is down to the person indulging.

I've know plenty of pot smokers and drinkers who've resisted those pitfalls and plenty who've succumbed.
In my limited experience most of my weed smoking friends have been musicians, so that may be some of it. I surely don't know any daily smokers running a small business or that I would trust driving an ambulance though. And yes, you can say the same about alcohol but with some of the folks I know they don't equate the two. It's perfectly ok to light up on the way home from a gig on a California freeway but they would look down on someone doing the same with a bottle

I'll also add that the whole "marijuana is a gateway drug" gets somewhat shut down by legalization too. That same guy in the jean jacket probably has more to sell than just weed. But when your source is a licensed store, that's all that's for sale there.

I've never bought into the whole gateway drug thing. If so, it starts with caffeine not pot

Never understood the appeal. I'm all for legalizing it, but I personally have no use for the stuff and God knows I certainly don't need any help being clumsy or exercising poor judgement. That's also the biggest reason I rarely drink, and why I heavily resist strong pain killers even when I'm all broken up or after a surgery.

My ADD/ADHD/OCD has a VERY hard time relinquishing any level of cognitive control. Being under the influence of anything like that raises my already out of control anxiety to a whole other level and I end up just wanting desperately for sobriety to return.

Throw in being surrounded by industry types that are always high, losing good friends and my high school sweetheart to drugs, and I'm just gonna sit it out.

Generally, nicotine is the first drug used if we don't look at caffeine. The gateway drug thing is not anything I believe in, though few people start out with heavy duty drugs. Using one thing does not necessarily lead to using other substances.

That was what I always had trouble with. I have dabbled with other drugs when I was younger. I had the opportunity to take many others and declined. I think the main reason people don't start out with heavy duty drugs is the availability. People usually start with cigarettes and booze because, at least when I was younger, almost every house had one or both of those in it. Very easy to try it. Most people don't have heroin sitting on a shelf in their house

What you mentioned is why I don't drink. When I used to drink, all judgement went out the window and it was like I was a completely different person. When I smoke pot, I am just a more relaxed version of myself. I have done some pretty stupid shit while drinking, but I can't think of a time where I was high and did something stupid. Other than crush a bag of Doritos

I also stay away from strong pain killers. If I need them (after surgery or dental shit) I will usually get a mild one and then take half the dosage and usually only before bed so I can sleep.

I'm all for legalization. I also know successful small business owners and people that I think are pretty good parents that are daily smokers.

I don't think trying pot means you'll automatically try other stuff too, but each new substance makes it a lot easier to say yes to the next.

occasionally. I have some friends who are pretty heavy users, so it's easy to get a hold of when I want some.
