When am I going to learn? Most of the time when I post on a different site, I see...

but you're posting more sentences....

Just for you, baby! And now my final sentence.

I sentence you to a full Nickelback concert, plus encores. Behave well and I won't make you meet and great with them backstage.

really?? i thought reading and writing were fundamental......i don't think i would "great" with those guys.

Just so you all know, when you Jerry-rig that piece of equipment you jewed the guy down to half price on, you insult Germans and Jews. Way to go.

That's not what kind of rigging we do in the deep south.

Except that it's actually "jury-rig."

I always thought it was "Jerry-rigged". Looks like "jury" is correct, though "Jerry" is pretty widely used as well.

When I lived in the Ozarks, this instrument was widely known as a "Jew's harp". In the north, I've seen it called "juice harp" or "jaw harp", but never a "Jew's harp".

Yes. But that association isn't typically regarded as offensive.

not to put too fine a point on it....but it's spelled "Gypped".
just sayin'

Not anymore. We now live in a world which accepts common use words in most any form, correct or not, just because they get used. Many people spell it phonetically so that spelling is not only accepted but probably more common. Even 'irregardless' is now considered a word. That was the moment which marked me actually giving up.

I've encountered this type of thing a fair amount. In many cases, they are great people who learned the term in common use and never considered that it could be offensive. I've had multiple people try to convince me that it's "just a figure of speech." I believe that in those cases, they don't really mean any harm. I'm not excusing it, just sharing some of my reflections.

Sure, that's an understandable perspective why a term or phrase didn't strike that individual as offensive. That's not a blank check to continue using it after someone informs you that it is offensive to them.

The best ethnic insult I ever heard came from the mouth of a truck driver who used to deliver shipments of Lp's, cassettes and CD's to my workplace. He once referred to his Dutch son-in-law as "That wooden-shoed cocksucker."

That was funny.

I really should start hanging out at truck stops more often.
