I posted on a different site about a weird CL email I got about a piece of gear I was trying to sell. People started sharing their own weird CL transactions. Then this exchange happened...

Living in Texas, I'm sure you know quite a few people that are like this IRL. The only change in them I've seen over the years is that they express themselves only when they think the others around them are of a like mind. That also indicates they know their hateful viewpoints are wrong.

It's amazing to me how people don't realize that offensive language is a barrier to communication. Of course some people don't want to communicate, they just want to spew.

I've encountered this type of thing a fair amount. In many cases, they are great people who learned the term in common use and never considered that it could be offensive. I've had multiple people try to convince me that it's "just a figure of speech." I believe that in those cases, they don't really mean any harm. I know now it comes from a derogatory place, but I can remember being a young rhino, hearing it, and being confused because it always sounded negative when people used the term. I couldn't figure out how a person being shrewd and good with money was a bad thing?
