You can only buy Three…..

83.
I owned Synchronicity and War. Listened to but didn't own the Bowie. Came a bit later to the SRV. Came much later to Tom Waits (I didn't pick up on him until 1993). Couldn't give a rat's ass about the other four.

In 1983 I bought Texas Flood which was a total breath of fresh air from all the synth pop that was on the radio at the time. In later years I acquired the Dio and the Tom Waits. I saw the three of them (not together) live over the years too.

Think I’ll have to go diagonally…. Yngwie, Van Halen, Dokken.

Ratt gets the honorable mention…Almost debated about putting it over VH, but Hot For Teacher and Top Jimmy. :helper:

Looks like I hadn't addressed '83...

I've owned 7 of the 9. While the Police are one of my all time bands, Synchronicity is my least favorite of their albums. So...

U2
Bowie
SRV

As to '84...I own or have owned 5 (including two on vinyl), but the only ones I'd pick (as in would or do still enjoy):

Deep Purple
Van Halen

In 1984 I seem to recall buying REM - Reckoning, Al Di Meola - Scenario (1983), Metallica - Ride The Lightning, U2 - The Unforgettable Fire, Echo & The Bunnymen - Ocean Rain, Husker Du - Zen Arcade, Van Halen -1984, Yngwie Malmsteen - Rising Force. I think I purchased Deep Purple - Perfect Strangers, the following year.

From that group of 9 albums above, I'll go with Van Halen & Deep Purple. I do still like the song, "Now Your Ships Are Burned," from Rising Force. It has a groove to it.

Yeah, if I had made the grid of covers (I stole it from a FB group) I would have made sure Ride the Lightning was in there. That's still probably my favorite Metallica Album (Puppets is close, but Lightning is probably more personal to me and would have definitely been in my three). :baimun:

Rising Force
Tu ti Nay
Out of the Cellar.

I saw Dokken with George Lynch at a small club. Some lady from a newspaper was going to interview them after the show. I told her long haired French boyfriend that I like 'Tooth and Nail'. He got a frenzied look in his eyes, and started shouting "Tu ti Nay, Tu ti Nay".

I only know Merciful Fate from their radio hits.

Is it a heavy metal FB group? How come for 1984 there's no Born in the USA, Unforgettable Fire, The Smiths,
Like a Virgin, The Works, Eliminator, Reckoning,
or Let it Be?

I think we all pretend to hate those Rolling Stone lists.

Tina Turner Private Dancer was a fantastic 1984 record.
