WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO......RIGHT NOW......Mk III

I love Mazzy Star and all that deserty goodness (Calexico is very desert too). Thinking about Rics and Mazzy Star: one of my favorite Rics is the Susanna Hoffs tribute model

Did you know that David Roback from Mazzy Star and Susanna Hoffs were BF and GF and their first band was together?
I seem to recall that with the whole Paisley Underground scene, and her Ric is pretty similar to the famous John Lennon Ric I think…not sure of the main differences. I liked quite a bit of the Paisley Underground stuff, I was pretty into The Three ‘O Clock when Arrive Without Traveling was released. I recently re-learned this one for fun:

woke up this mornin' with CSN&Y on my mind and boty you forget they could rock out when they wanted and I gotta say Mr. Stills is total punk rock here with that shirt...what is that a Cop shirt ? also why did they never release "right on rock and roll?

(also suprise suprise...they look high as fuck here)

*edit* jeebuz...I always took the guitar sound for granted with CSN but watching this I see how amazing a guitarist Stills was, holy fucvk.

Hell yeah! The Three O'Clock have so many good songs. I particularly like 'I Go Wild', 'Jetfighter', and 'Cantaloupe Girlfriend'. I think I like pretty much all the Paisley Underground bands. I also really love how those bands are so positive when they talk about one another. They seem like a friendly family.

The Su Hoffs Ric is one I'd want if I won the lotto. What differentiates it from the John Lennon is it has a full-size neck (24 3/4 scale) vs. the John Lennon short 20 3/4 scale; it has sharkfin inlays; it has 2 toasters and a humbucker in the bridge position vs. three toasters; it has checkerboard binding; and it has an R tailpiece rather than the trem.

That really has the ideal specs I’d love too, the bucker in the bridge (also a la’ Fogerty w/ his PAF) but especially the extended scale length. The cosmetics are gorgeous…I’d love one at the right price, maybe Ric will reissue it someday.

Classic tunes, really love that live clip of A Cantaloupe Girlfriend, wearing their Floyd/Syd influence on their sleeves. Always tipping their hat to The Who too w/ the Lambretta/Vespas in Jet Fighter vid, the drummer aping Keith Moon moves. Looks like they were all having a lot of fun w/ the bands sharing the same stage…the Byrds tune was an apt one, all those L.A. late 60’s bands were really the primary influence on the whole Paisley scene. Never seemed like a rivalry w/ any of those bands as you said, just a lot of mutual respect.

Been listening to a lot of Warren Zevon while at the same time reading “I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead…” book about him. He was quite a dirt bag. They call him a genius but seems mentally ill.
