You and me both, it’s long been my favorite Pixies song although I love the whole Doolittle album. The outro is def. one of the greatest ever, I believe I’ve heard the extended version before, I’m going to search it out again. I had a YouTube reactor listen to it recently and the outro was totally lost on him

Really glad you liked them! I'm digging both of them too.
I first heard of L.A. Witch on an Earthquaker Devices pedal demo by the frontwoman. Rewatching it now, that's a really cool riff. I think I'll have a go at learning it this evening.

I’ve heard good things about that pedal but haven’t tried it, I like what I’m hearing there especially paired up with a delay and the JM.

Being a big lifelong Syd fan, I’m a little hesitant to watch this movie…I’ve read so many books and watched a lot of documentaries/old footage/ interviews etc. I don’t if I’ll learn anything new from it or if it’ll disappoint. It’s been released in the UK already and will have select screenings in the states from what I’ve heard. I’m sure I’ll watch it eventually, anyone caught it yet or heard any feedback?

I'm really digging that JM >> Plumes >> delay >> Princeton chain. Great 'former surf act transitions to garage punk' tone. I've been thinking of getting a Princeton for a while now, and that Plumes pairs well with it in the video.
I'm been playing the riff all afternoon too.

I’m going to learn it soon, I’ve been busy re-learning old Smiths and REM tunes since I got the new Rickenbacker. I actually have a Johnny Marr sig. Jag, and it’s a great guitar, but it doesn’t nail the old Smiths stuff like the Ric and my 335…which makes sense since he never used a Jag w/ The Smiths. The Ric has been a revelation for those kind of tones. I’ve owned two Princeton Reissues, but I never really bonded w/ them and sold them off, they may have needed some re-biasing out of the box…kind of dark and compressed, unlike vintage examples I’ve played. Comparatively, my old 70’s Vibro Champ sounds bigger and more open than the Princetons despite it having less watts. a great solo version....playing for the song and what a voice, Grant really had some good vocals
I honestly prefer his voice to Mould’s.

Gotta bunch of old RocknRoll and Rockabilly going right now. Love that stuff. when I was in High school in 80 thru 82, Guys I played music with would have Nugent, Blackfoot, Floyd,etc. going when we were driving around. I loved that stuff , too and that is what we played out in public, but I was at home a lotta nights digging the Collins Kids, and Sleepy LaBeef.

I'm really envious in the best way about your new Rickenbacker. I'd love to have one some day and really devote time to getting to know all their strengths and peculiarities. There are so many great Rickenbacker songs I'd be itching to try.
Yeah, 'dark and compressed' is definitely not what I'm after! My dream tone would be this:
Marty and Kenny both use old silverface Princetons for everything, and I was hoping the reissues would be able to get me in that ballpark.

That’s a really hypnotic/lovely song, I dig! I can certainly cop those tones with my old Vibro Champ, the onboard tremolo is the best I’ve ever experienced, it’s really gorgeous and has great range. I may have just had bad luck with those Princetons because I’ve heard others get great sounds out of them…they may have been biased too cold, and the tremolo was also kind of subdued and lackluster vs. my Vibro. The scenery in that vid looks a lot like where I live, inland in SoCal out towards the desert…also reminds me of the Mazzy Star Fade Into You vid.
But yeah, I’ve found the Ric to be very inspiring! I don’t find it particularly difficult to play despite its quirks, it def. coaxes different things out of my playing in a same sort of way that a Jazzmaster/Jag does…and I like that, it’s a guitar that will break you out of ruts. I’m not doing big bluesy bends or anything like that with it, more of the arpeggiated and linear type stuff and focusing more on chord voicings etc. It can def. rock though, but w/ a lot of clarity and focus. Totally unique to anything else I’ve ever played tonally or feelwise, I really wish I had picked one up years ago!
