The Never Ending Gig Thread!

Last night, load in at 8:30, hit the stage at 11:15 to play in front of 20 people, hang around for the second bands set, load out at 1am. Can someone remind me why I still do this? It's fun , I didn't really expect a lot of people to come out on a chilly, snowy Tuesday night and I was right.

cause it's fun. I wouldn't take a Tuesday gig unless it either paid HUGE or was so fun I couldn't pass it up.

For me it's all about the fun, in the last couple weeks I've played in clubs for 7 hours with three different bands and the total pay was $75, and that is not per guy that comes out to about ten bucks each.

For me this song describes it perfectly:

Well, thats what its all about for you....for me right now its about paying some bills. I'd like to get back to making some music for myself but it's not in the cards for the near future.

I know, I'm not complaining about it because I enjoy it. We don't get paid but at least we get a bunch of people complimenting us about our sound which is always nice and we get to play on big stages so that's always cool too.

I'd love to play on some of the stages you post. I think the biggest actual stage I'm playing this year in 40-50 gigs will be a high school charity gig I'm doing on Saturday :markfacepalm:

At least you're not doing an Evita medley...

yeah. you people are strange.

In my nations defence (as shitty as our culture is) I don;t think anyone wants to hear Evita either. One of the reasons I'm taking this gig is to see just how fubar the gigs get :)

Whats funny is that since we've been watching the BBC version of kitchen nightmares my wife thinks that the UK is the shit because there is not as much pussyfooting around stuff like we do here. Folks seem to tell it like it is more. I'd love to visit but I get the feeling that its like New Jersey but everyone is pasty white instead of orange

Gordon Ramsay used to play for my football team. He got into cooking when he injured himself and needed a new career.:)

Last night at the end of the show I did something I've never done onstage before, there was a chick sitting at the front of the bar texting during our whole set and when we hit the last note I gently tossed my pick and watched it casually fly through the air and bounce on the bar right in front of her and then laughed when she saw it and looked up as if to say "What the fuck was that?"

Ive done wAY worse.

Took a leak on stage?

nah. I have taken a chicks purse, coat and drink off of my pedalboard and thrown it into the crowd though after repeated and polite requests to get her shit off the stage. That resulted in this, which is now framed and hanging in my office:

Still not recieved the setlist from the fat wallapers.

I'm giving them until tomorrow night then backing out, if it turns out only to be a few gigs I do over the holiday, I'm not busting a nut learning a tonne of useless tunes in half a week because they're sitting on their ass too lazy to send an e-mail.

I've had a quick look at this University gig that my brother is playign next Friday. It's £35 a ticket  and on till 8 in the morning :double eek: I've told him I might need to come on board as a guest tambo player because there's no way I'm missing this carnage.

We are using a couple of female backup singers at the gig on Saturday, rehearsed with them last night with the whole band and it sounded cool but they wanna rehearse Saturday before we load out. WTF? That is something I normally would never do but I said I would. Not only that but our keyboard player told me last night that he thought we were going to take his gear after our last show but he didn't tell us so now I have to go back to the club later today and pick up his stuff. Who the hell leaves a gig without taking his gear? And, I'm playing a show with his other band next month and found out last night that he wants to use three different bass players at the gig. The fun never ends.

Lame. Totally lame. Ask if he wants you to wipe his ass after his next dump, too.

I just found out that they are closing the 405 freeway this weekend for repairs and I need to use it to get to 2 of my 3 gigs.
