Got my VOX today and I'm extremely happy with it. It's worth every bit of the $550 list price. For $250 at Musicians Friend, or $181 with a price match it's ridiculously nice.
I can't find any seams in the mahogany body, and the maple cap is at least 1/2 inch thick. The guitar's thinner than a Les Paul - maybe about 2/3 the thickness. Belly contour is comfy. Neck feels good - a little meat to it but not too chunky. Nice dark, tight grained piece of rosewood on the fretboard. No issues with the fretwork, action and playability are good, but I'll probably tweak things a bit once I change strings to something a bit heavier. Silver finish is pretty great - clear gloss over something kinda metal-flakey but not too over the top. Fit and finish are near flawless. The tuners and bridge are a little atypical but work perfectly and seem well made.
Pickups sound good and the tapping switch is a real bonus. Yeah, humbucker mode isn't as "Les Paul" as a Les Paul, and Single Coil isn't as "Fendery" as a Telecaster, but who cares. All of the pickup positions sound good, and they definitely seem to have their own thing going.
Overall I can't find a single bad thing to say about it, which is pretty rare for a sub $200 guitar.
