'Afternoon People!
Madison is laid out so weird, due to the fact that so much of the city is jammed on an isthmus between 3 lakes (I lived there for 3 years in the mid 80s, while completing Engineering Degree #1 at the Univ. of Wisconsin). And, give or take a mile from the state capitol, and the university, everything's one-way streets, with a case of you can't get there from here. I used to live on West Washington Blvd., next to the parks on Monona Bay, and if I was going west on West Washington Blvd., unless I wanted to break the law, and ride my motorcycle on the sidewalk from the driveway ramp of an apartment building, 2 buildings east of my building, I literally had to go 7/10 mile out of my way, just to get across the street to my apartment building, due the lack of crossways through the island separating the east bound lanes from the west bound lanes. I drove to Madison 3 years ago, to pay my old alma mater a visit, and I went past the apartment building I'd lived in, and learned it was even worse nowadays, due to the fact that the small side street I used to use off of Park St., to loop back around to east bound West Washington Blv., and my apartment, is now blocked off for a bike path!. So, instead of 7/10 of a mile to get across the street from the west bound side of West Washington Blvd., it's now more like a mile!
Also, why are Madison cops such great traffic cops, but so crappy about dealing with crime? When I lived there, that city had the highest crime rate in the state (I knew high school classmate [who also attend the UW], who got robbed, while delivering pizzas in my apartment complex). from what I've been told, the crime rate isn't much better nowadays. But I will say this, there were a lot ocool things to do around that town!
