National Football League 2019

The Pats have taken troubled players and humbled them to the point that they follow the Patriot way. If players (whether stars or not) act out of line, they are released. So even with taking on a player such as Josh Gordon for a couple years ago, he was on suspension and you really never heard about any antics since. Hernandez was immediately released when the situation in Florida came up. Corey Dillon was a troubled player and came to the Pats. Became a very productive player with no repercussions while he was with the team. Jonas Gray undrafted free agent in 2014 played an awesome game against the Colts where he ran 199 yards and scored 4 TD's. Opened his mouth after the game then was benched. Even Ocho-Cinco was given an opportunity. Failed miserably to make an impact for the team. The list goes on as I am a Pats fan but I am sure other teams have their troubles. Ray Lewis is a big one that comes to mind along with a few other Raven players just for starters.

As for AB, if he STFU, he will thrive. If not, bye, bye.

then there is this take...

I find it interesting that the Pats were able to ink a deal in absolutely no time at all. It's almost as if they were aware that this was going to happen. AB seems to have had the Pats in mind the whole time, which raises some interesting implications.

I believe AB wanted to come to the Pats after his tantrum in Pittsburgh. The Steelers wouldn't want to give AB to the Pats considering that they usually tend to met in the playoffs. The Pats even offered a 1st round draft pic so yes they were interested. As for AB's tantrums in Oakland, who knows what was on his mind. It may have been his ploy to get out of the Raiders organization. As for inking a deal, the major question would be who else made offers to AB? We only hear about the Pats. In fact before he was released, Twitter was blowing up saying the Pats will probably get AB.

There may be an investigation to come because so much controversy has come since this transaction. The bottom line is when the Steelers were shopping AB around, only a few teams were interested. When he went to the waiver wire, all 31 teams are eligible to make offers.

That was a tough break. My brother has lived in Jax Beach for 20+ years now and has had season tickets for most of that time. I didn't get to see the game, but he said Minshew looked pretty good.
Minshew certainly looked better than preseason. He was awful in preseason. He can't run that team though. He's just inconsistent.

Yeah, but there isn't much else out there, I know, as a Skins fan I went through the QB shuffle last season. Anyone they bring in now, is going to have to get up to speed fast and I'm not sure they can bring someone in now and expect to make the playoffs. After watching Houston last night, I think the Jags have no shot at the AFC South title now anyways.

Some say he still waits ....

Brown being accused of rape.

This will be over shortly. Back to your regularly scheduled 13-3 season.

I agree. Sadly. So I guess we can scratch my earlier prediction. Hopefully Foles is not "injured" but coming out of the locker room in a sling does not look promising.
And if Minshew gets hurt we'll have a WR as our QB. So that'll be fun.

Well, Foles has a broken clavicle. Here is what I just read online...
Minshew will remain the starter, but the team traded a 2020 fifth-round pick for Steelers backup Joshua Dobbs.

In two seasons with the Steelers, Dobbs saw limited time in only a few games and has 12 career pass attempts. He was a fourth-round pick in 2017 and fell to third on the depth chart when he lost the backup job to 2018 third-round pick Mason Rudolph.
Fun!

Yeah, I saw that yesterday. I would think they stick with Minshew because he has been there since the draft and will have a better grip of the offense. It's not like Dobbs is long time veteran that can jump right in.

My take away is that Minshew will remain the starter unless he sucks or gets hurt and we needed a back up for him until Foles gets better. Projection is week 11 which is a long way away.

When you go into the season with a 6th round rookie as your backup QB, I think you have accepted to have a bad season if your starter goes down. Hopefully this Minshew kid gets some experience to ride into next season.

True, but his 275 yards and 2 touchdowns made me feel better about him. The long haul awaits.
