My thoughts after visiting HCGJ today for the first time since the change...

Not so often, though.

ChaseA17 posts here sometimes, too, but his schtick doesn't get much traction either.

Bring 'em all back.

The thing that made HCGJ great was the whole "Mos Eisley Cantina" vibe that it had going. Some took it too far occasionally, but my tolerance is actually very high for ridiculousness. It keeps things from being boring.

Brocktoon has a nice little "Jabba's Palace" type place growing where politics and hatred are kosher. Between this place and there, it's the closest we'll probably ever get to having the old gang all under the same roof.

I just have to keep a handle on the politics and religion to keep from offending my paying customers at Premier. Tiltsta penned a good policy sticky at the top of this forum...

I really don't remember a lot of heated debate over those two issues in GJ.

Fashion Jam provoked far more reactions. It was great.

Actually, I mostly stayed away from HCGJ, HCOJ, and spent almost all my time on HCEG, but the change there is of a similar magnitude. I'm just curious: Are folks on HC touting the new format as the greatest thing since sliced bread and excoriating those of us who've fled?

We've had some stuff get out of hand here. My threshold for the stuff is fairly low because regardless of my own thoughts on those subjects my customers can be pretty hardcore about them and I don't want to be seen as advocating one thing or another. Even in my own lobby I've had to shut down conversations because one person would start getting heated about something and start making the other customers uncomfortable and then try to draw me in on their side. Business isn't good enough to go pissing people off and there are plenty of other things to talk about.

When I first joined in 2006, I spent a considerable amount of time in HCEJ. I found it to be moderately stodgy, and moderately but not overly knowledgeable about actual guitar matters.

I popped in a few times over the last three years, and was amazed at how many outright stodgy, simpleton dickweeds there were, who really knew incredibly little about guitars, with a few notable exceptions. I knew that it was in dire straits when the dude who posted with pride that he played a "Hello Kitty" Strat was coming across as a pillar of the community knowledge base. I was sure that he was a full-on masterwork of a Troll, and then became equally convinced that he wasn't.

Most of the knowledge that was there fled in terror a looooong time ago, IMO.

Honestly, the only conversation I've seen on the topic the last month or so has been in this thread. Some folks are trying really hard to keep the conversations going over there (especially in HCEG) and ill post in those a few times a week.

Hmmm...kinda surprised at that, knowing the general demographic that initially moved here in 2008. Most hated even the occasional trolling.

Well, Derivicus took offense at something I posted about a gig I did as a favor for our keyboard player who is a local democrat and ended up banned. Sad navigator and fanuvbrak got into it over something that I forget and while I probably ahold have banned both of them SN was the one who pushed it over the line which is why he isn't here anymore.

And we have some folks who might not get into it publicly put of respect for the house rules but take personal offense to slagging on religion and sexuality issues on a regular basis and either report posts or PM me on a regular basis. I can't make everyone happy but I don't want folks getting bent out of shape over stuff posted here that is offensive enough that you wouldn't say it in a room full of strangers.

I do have to add that while the lounge is full of hcgj folks we do have a fair assortment of students and local customers as well as non-HC people who have found their way here over the last five years. I find it neat to have a slowly growing and evolving community but sometimes it's like being he mayor of a small town.

Thank you. I'm reading between the lines as you write this.

"Don't f*** up my gig, Mojo!"

I don't think there are enough "folks" left to bring a whole lot of touting power to bear about anything, really.

'sup, Squid. :thu:

Was the exodus really that massive? Initially, I didn't go back simply because I couldn't log in, and I couldn't remember what e-mail address I used when I signed up 7 years ago....

Was pretty much just Gennation having his occasionally scheduled meltdown, which always resulted in him getting banned.

As for here, once upon a time a certain ex-moderator from that other place used to post here. Not for long, for obvious reasons.
