Line6 HX Effects Initial Impressions

The loaner Helix LT showed up. Thing is huge! The interface and controls are excellent. Expanded signal paths compared to the HX. Effects sound good. Expanded pedal board compared to the HX is noticeable... 8 dedicated effect switches plus 2 bank switches vs 6 total on the HX. The built in expression pedal is cool if a little stuff.

Amp sims with stock settings sound ok but the Kemper amp sims/profiles are leaps and bounds better tone wise.

My understanding is that the biggest problem with Helix is the cab IRs. Loading 3rd party IRs is easy and much better than the stockers.

Had a decent gig last night using the loaner Helix LT. It’s easier to operate than the HX since it can run more effects and has more switches. But it’s just so fucking big. My band and the other band we played with both commented on the size and all the lights. It’s like showing up at your friend’s house to play GI Joe and you bring the GI Joe aircraft carrier.

The tones were acceptable. But I’m still on the fence about returning the HX and going pedal board.
