Is it just me...

Here's the problem as I see it. And maybe it isn't even a problem.

We all have our shticks. Lord knows I have mine. For whatever reason, a few people have decided of late to ramp their shtick up to unusually high levels, to the point where they change from being actual individuals to being cartoon characters. Then it's almost every single thread you read through, you're tripping over this cartoon character and their shtick, to the point where you don't really feel like reading anymore. It isn't being sensitive, or butthurt, or outraged or anything like that. It's more like "wow, really? Still? that's pretty annoying". Regardless of whether this character is an act or not is immaterial. It's just old and tired, and it's what kills places like this.

TL/DR version - get a life.
There's all kinds of stupid stuff on this forum that runs the gamut from insipid cabinetry, showing family photos, to bad puttering music. That's annoying too. We don't get everything we want.

You're picking on people who are just having a little fun to break the mundane monotony, when you should be pointing out the people who take things way too seriously.

Lastly, everybody is a cartoon on the Internet. Everyone I've ever met here is different in person. It is in no way real, and the people who act like they are real are boring and lack a sense of humor.

Some people are better off lurking if they can't take a joke.

TL/DR

Yeah, but when that joke is beaten to death, you become Will Ferrell. He's funny as hell in small doses (short skits, like SNL), but when his act becomes long-form (like a movie) it just gets old and you don't want to watch it anymore.

They're not jokes so much as silly arguments for the sake of being silly. There's no stand up comedy here.

It takes two and sometimes more people to do that. If it bothers you so much, skip those posts the way I skip over the suburban first world problem bullshit posts.

I say the same thing over and over and over about half of the 'Hot or Not?' and 'GPOTD' threads. I assure that I'm being 100% sincere. Just like most of my posts, unless I'm being obviously over the top ("Let's crucify Dave Grohl!")

What's the alternative? 30 posts of "+1"? It's like the old person Facebook walls where someone posts a family photo and 60 people post "beautiful family"; what's the fucking point? Self-congratulating and reassurance?

If the criticism disappeared, you'd be bored to death and this would be a place that you'd check twice a week.

But when it's every damn thread, just for the sake of doing it, it gets annoying and really fucking old.

It's like when somebody in a POS pulls up next to me in my Mustang and revs the engine. Zero fucks are given on my part and I drive like I usually do, but the POS reclines and the guy is screaming out his window like he won the NHRA Nationals.

It takes two to race. If you're the only one that gives a fuck it's not a race.

Same thing with being silly. If you go into every thread like the kid in the POS trying to race me but nobody else gives a fuck, it's not being silly, it's being annoying.

Lastly, I love Will Ferrell's comedy and he never gets old for me. He only makes a movie every 3 years or so, so it actually doesn't get old.

Looks like you may want to use your magic Ignore Drama Queen button. I got sick of his schtick and trolling posts. Time is too precious to waste on desperate losers.

My point was that it gets old before the movie is even over, although he was fantastic in Stranger Than Fiction because he wasn't playing a cartoon and beating a joke to death.

Yeah, I've been trying to avoid that as I've never actually ignored anybody on any forum before. The only time I was ever tempted I couldn't because I was a moderator, so I couldn't ignore anybody.

It's not every thread. You're full of shit. Count the number of topics on the front page then get back to me. I don't even engage in 3/4 of the topics here.

Thing is - just like with many star actors - just because they don't stretch out, it doesn't mean that they can't. If you're someone like Will Farrell, and you keep getting paid $15,000,000 every year for appearing in shitty movies... I mean, that's not the worst gig in the world. But it doesn't mean that he's not capable of delivering really good work.

Funny part is that you think I'm talking directly about you. Sensitive much?

But it doesn't get old. That's just your warped opinion. I laugh at pretty much all of his movies.

True, but I tend not to like his usual output. That's a general failing of Hollywood, though. Like Will Smith is fantastic when he works with a script that wasn't written directly for him. Its when scriptwriters write "what would this character be like if he was Will Smith?" that things suck.

Are you not quoting me? Are we not having a conversation? I already stated that these silly conversations involve more than one person. How could they not otherwise?

It ain't you babe.

Most movie stars are lucky to have a well defined marketable niche that people pay money to see time and again.

If they don't have that they're just actors. The whole trope of the frustrated highly recognized actor who wants to be taken seriously as an artist is worn out and dated. Successful actors have a strong "type" and it's the biggest over site in acting conservatories. You need that in this shitty business.
