I swear I let him play the Strat first

No barefoot buttons here, pansies!

I gave him the Peavey to placate his desire for pedals.
Based on the demographic of this forum I'd imagine most of us started with a solid state Peavey of some kind. I had one of those stereo chorus variants, I don't remember which one.

I bought that amp in 1993 around the same time I bought my RG. It’s sitting around not doing anything and he doesn’t know better anyway. I also offered him the Peavey Minx I bought for $20 earlier this year, but he wanted this one.

Does he have an acoustic? If not, PM me.

His acoustic is a 1970 Stella with a 24" scale. It's a little too big on him. I got him this for two reasons.

First, he actually started putting his fingers on the fretboard. He can play G and C chords with one finger. He can play power chords, but hasn't figured out how to keep his fingers on the strings. That's typical developmental stuff.

The second, likely more important reason, is that Stella is the loudest fucking guitar ever. My Taylor isn't as loud as that thing. It had started to drive my wife batty, because he doesn't just play the guitar, he strums the fuck out of it. So in giving him the Ibanez, I took back the Stella, put an $11 bridge on it, and tuned it to Open C. Now it's a slide guitar, which is why I bought it in the first place. I'm honestly surprised it survived him and isn't smashed to bits.
