Going to make some meteoras!

I wondered why none of the big makers used wenge. Now I know. I read a lot about how it likes to splinter when you machine it…
They weren’t lying. It’s totally ruined.
so back to my original plan for maple.

@Elias Graves Where do you get your lumber? I am currently seeking a source for some projects (mostly walnut) and my local stuff is all 1/4 thick at most. I need some 3/4" x 4" x 48" or wider for my projects.
All my local places sell basically cabinet making stuff. It's good quality, just not what I need.

Body work continues. I got the shape cut, the pickup and control cavities cut, the neck pocket cut. Rounded over the edges. Now I’m carving the comfort cuts. the body is ridiculously light. I got 3.9 pounds before I did the comfort carves. Maybe 3.5 after?

That went fast. This body is ready for paint. funny story about this one. I ordered a “paint grade” body blank from StewMac thinking it would be some ugly mismatched pieces cobbled together.
what I got was three pieces each cut quarter sawn consecutively from the same plank. The only thing that made it paint grade and not AAA was one worm hole and a little staining.
The finished body is ridiculously light at about 3.5 pounds.
Coming up, gray primer and Duplicolor performance red lacquer.

I got started on the clear coat today. I got four coats on. Let it dry overnight and lay down some more tomorrow I hope. So far I’ve managed to keep this paint job very thin. I’m quite pleased with it so far.

Looking good! I was looking at guitar blanks this past week now that my shop is clean and running again. I want a Tele made out of Lignum Vitae. :headbang::bigg:
