Give me something to watch on Netflix

IT: Welcome to Derry is fucking terrible. And I say that as someone who liked the recent movies. It's just bad, bad, bad. All the scary moments are unintentionally funny and not at all frightening. But the show is so self-serious that you can't even enjoy it as camp.

I got halfway through episode four and decided I was done. I had a feeling from the first few episodes but was hoping it'd get better as a fan of the book and recent movies. But if anything it was getting worse. It's rare for me to bail on a show halfway through an episode but that's when I had the realization that I didn't care at all what happened next.

It is fucking terrible. I've been trying to enjoy it, and I'm about to give up too. There are parts where you can see how it could have been good, and then they repeatedly shit the bed.

The main young white girl actor is stand-out great. The sets and costuming are a joy. But the plot and 'scares' are dogshit and just embarrassing, and not in a good, camp way.

The car ride in episode 1 was good, up until it went super fucking silly and lost all of the creepiness it built up. The bike chase through the cemetery was like a bad episode of Goosebumps or Are You Afraid of the Dark?. The stuff with the ancient Native Americans and the knife made out of the meteorite was just atrocious. Dick Halloran is good, but all the other military stuff is boring as fuck.

The theme tune and titles slap though. Best thing about it.

I had to quote your post to see how you did the blurry spoiler thing... I like that! :baimun:

Has anyone watched Guiellermo Del Toro's "Frankenstein"?

It's spiritually more accurate to the Mary Shelly book while tipping it's hat to Karloff and others that have come before.... but..... why was this movie burried? It wasn't released on Netflix until a week AFTER Halloween. I read that it was released in a handful of theatres with no promotion all all. I love Del Toro's movies, this movie is dripping in vibe, and the cast is stacked.

Definitely worth a watch if you dig gothic horror movies.

IDK?

If I hadn't seen Christoph Waltz mention it on Hot Ones I would have never known.

Haven't seen it yet, but plan on it.

One Battle After Another is terrific and will hoover up Oscar's galore, unless Nolan knocks it out of the park with The Odyssey. At the very least I hope Johnny Greenwood gets another one.

I was a bit disappointed with the ending. Why did they bring back Lockjaw just to kill him again. That entire section was redundant and killed the pace of the finale.

I'll leave further thoughts to the politics forum [:runaway:/SPOILER]

Just finished Alien: Earth and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it. They absolutely nail the aesthetic of the first two movies and there are enough interesting stories in the Alien/Predator/Weyland-Yutani universe to sustain it.

Is it necessary, no. But was Aliens after the perfection of Alien? Noah Hawley is a great mimic. He pulled off the seemingly impossible with Fargo and he does it again here.

Great cast but particularly Ade Edmenson. Virtually unregonisable, in the best possible way. And a stonking rock soundtrack to end every episode.

Alien Earth was visually appealing. It had good production value. I can’t fault the actors for poor storytelling.

They failed to capitalize on their best ideas. The rushed through certain plot points that could have been interesting. They relied on cheap shock value instead of building proper suspense. The writing was lousy with illogical plot points and unrealistic characters. Without getting deep into spoilers, one example, the genius boy acts like an idiot …. which is how he was written. Some of how they had the Xenomorph’s behave was just silly.

Alien and Aliens are great. Everything else in the franchise is various degrees of mediocre. Disappointing.

I mean, he is an idiot. A smug, narcassistic billionaire idiot who thinks he is the future of humanity. Sound familiar?

Holy shit! Weapons on HBO is a fantastic horror movie! Creepy as fuck, almost perfect pacing, and a handful of jumpscares--loved every minute of it.
I waited to get it in DVD from the library, so I'm just seeing it. I've never liked horror, but tried to dip a toe in after loving Get Out a few years ago. It takes a really great horror movie to win me over, and Weapons is it. A lot of gore, but otherwise I'd recommend it to anyone.

The Beast in Me was a good watch. Matthew Rhys is great!
We enjoyed it quite a bit. Rhys nailed it making Nile a complex and engaging character.

I do think a couple of things his character did was pretty dumb. I guess it moved the plot along, but it seemed like lazy writing to me.

Love and Death is very well done. Elizabeth Olsen and Jesse Plemons do a fantastic job playing inept but sincere lovers in a nerdy affair.

I will warn you that the story is pretty intense and unsettling. It's still giving the wife and me the creepies days after finishing it.

No.
Aside from shock scenes with scary guys jumping out unexpectedly, I can't recall being scared real, real bad from any movie. Even a little scared.
I got scared real real bad by most of the Scooby Doo cartoons even after you found out it was just some guy in a mask. Hell I get scared by some of the Verizon "can you hear me now" commercials real real bad.

I once shed a tear at a Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson film.
I smelled what he was cooking.

Never watched Homeland when it was on HBO. Binging it now on Netflix. Wow! Gripping, edge of the seat stuff!

Jupiter's cock! I have set mind to glorious purpose and binged the first 3 episodes of Spartacus: House of Ashur. It is absolutely fantastic.

The first few seasons are great. It does become a law of diminishing returns after a while I found. Think I gave up around the end of season 5. I was still enjoying it but never felt the need to continue.

By the thunder of Jove! This news fills my chest with the bloody warmth of satisfaction! I confess, I feared they would strip away the glorious gore, sex and FUCKING SPECTACLE that etched the originals into my memory. My cock grows bulbous at the prospect of more GLORIOUS GAMES!
