2025 Concert Thread

Just home from Benson Boone. Wife bought tickets on a whim so I tagged along. Dude was tremendous, one of the best gigs I've seen in years. Of he's not doing stadiums but the next album then something has gone wrong.

He was struggling with his voice and still absolutely nailed it, probably the most technically gifted singer I've seen live.

The staging was incredible and it was coherent and made sense as part of the show as opposed to times you see a big production that's just done for the sake of it.

As well as the singing the dude can perform. Backflips off the piano, floating around on a chandelier, really good banter between songs etc.

He had a small band, drums, keys, bass and guitar but they sounded incredible. With that and his singing, even the tunes I didn't know were still really enjoyable.

Not that the teeny boppers will have picked it up but there were lots of nods to Elton John, Bowie, Freddie, Springsteen in the performance and visuals which I enjoyed

Need to listen to more of his stuff. It was totally night and day compared to Chappel Roane in August.who was pretty forgettable except for when doing the hits.

It's October so it's Mummy season. Caught 'em Sunday at the State Theater in Falls Church, VA. They never disappoint.

Saw Of Monsters And Men with my 15 year old at the Anthem last night. Last time I saw them was at the Anthem in 2019 with my older son who was 15 at the time...which I didn't realize until I was thinking about it during the show.

Anyway, they were great again. As I noted to my wife, they have such a great energy in their music and as performers.

The opener was a nice surprise too. Árný Margrét, who played an ES-something through some effects for texture and sang. Great voice, cool songs, and nice guitaring.

The only issue was their main set was about 1:10 and then they played a two song encore that might've been 10+ minutes. While they still played 17 songs all told, which is a fair amount, it just felt as short as it was. I'm used to the Avetts playing 25 or more songs over 1:45+ or DMB playing 19-21 songs over 2:15 to 2:35. So just MORE music.

Anyway, the Anthem is definitely my favorite indoor venue. Looking forward to more shows there in the future.

Saw Hot Mulligan at the 930 Club last night.

Rev was hanging with them at NAMM last year... I had my daughter with and I was talking about the different people that I met on the floor that day and she went "Shut up!!..." I said "Do you know them?" and proceeded to show me all these playlists on her phone. I called Rev to find out if they were still there but he was driving them to the airport.

A few minutes later I get a personalized video from the band saying "Hey Cassi.. We heard you're a big fan. Sorry we didn't get to meet, but hope to see you soon." and she flipped out. :lmbo:

@Flamencology would drop the 'fucking', as Dio was their singer at the time. No offense to any tribute band, but Blue Oyster Cult is one of my favorite bands. They deserve better. But business is business. Anyhow, I doubt they care.
The Symbol Remains record from 2020 is excellent.
My brother swiped this promotional poster.
Black and Blue Tour.

Oh, snap. Saw that at McNichols in Denver when I was stationed there. Sabbath cancelled. BOC played a super long set and I believe that was the show Robby Krieger joined them on set, played Crystal Ship, Love Me Two Times and Roadhouse Blues. I'm going to see if I still have the ticket stub.

While you search for that, I'll bust out my Soft White Underbelly Stub. I was 16 at this show. I went with my sister. It was pouring rain, and the roof leaked. We sat in a close to the stage table that was getting rained on. The band was pointing to the rain as they kept on rocking.

Good to see you buddy.

Can't put my finger on it, but despite everything pointing towards fanship on paper, I can't get into Bonamassa. Great player, surprisingly good singer, but it just doesn't connect.

Obviously he's doing fine without me being a part of the fold and I'm glad others dig anyone doing real live music.

Yep, it just kind of leaves me cold. I feel the same way about Bonamassa as I do about Tommy Emmanuel.

Good call. Tommy's also an objectively huge guitar talent. Although I can enjoy watching some clips here and there, what he does only holds my interest for so long...as in not long enough to think about watching a whole concert.

Again two great players, but the playing and music don't grab me.

Yeah! Got tickets for Hong Kong's (bizarrely named) Clockenflap Festival on the Sunday. Really looking forward to MBV, GY!BE, Franz Ferdinand, and Bright Eyes.

Sparks are playing on Friday, and they've got a supergroup project with Franz Ferdinand, so fingers crossed they make an appearance with Franz on Sunday.

Jerry Reed is my favorite guitarist of all-time. Yet Tommy Emmanuel interests me for a moment, and then I turn off. He's objectively super talented, but he just doesn't do it for me.
