Achtung! Who else here has a watch fetish?

Sidenote, as we're moving house and have space for a bougie bar / game room I've been tentatively looking at antique furniture and auction sites the past few weeks though I'm not buying anything until we move .

One of the auctioneers has a bunch of vintage Omega Seamaster and Rolex Aquamarine watches coming up in the next month or so.

They have the model, movement serial numbers etc... so I'm not concerned about them being fake but they're sold as seen.

Anyone with more knowledge than me have thoughts? Could a cheeky bid and refurb job land me a great watch for the price (they're still likely to go for thousands) or is it potentially throwing money at junk?

Depending on how old and special they are even a trashed vintage Swiss watch can be worth tens of thousands of dollars as long as the parts are all original. There have been plenty of watches made in small quantities for one year that nobody cared about back then but collectors want today. If the watch isn’t especially collectible you can get it refurbished, Rolex will even overhaul an old watch with new parts. But that’s not a cheap service!

i would like to add to this^^
unless a particular rolex has NO collector value today or ever....NEVER overhaul a rolex. i've seen them on antiques roadshow, in not particularly good shape, but all original, going for upwards of $100,000.
never overhaul a rolex!!!

that is all. :thu:

Ive never gotten along with watches and only wore them when I had to. Once I got a cell phone theres always a clock on it. Before that I would carry a pocket watch if I had a suitable pocket for one.
Main reason being Im left handed. For any everyday situation other than the office its always in the way and hanging up or banging on something. Put it on your right arm and the stem digs in and its uncomfortable.
Nowadays about the only time I'll wear a watch is if Im trying to class up a special occasion outfit with an accessory since I dont much do jewelry either.

Not an expensive watch - but I picked this up a couple months ago.

I've somehow turned into a bit of a watch dork over the last few years and I've discovered that I'm a big fan of simple easy-to-read watches with that retro military style like that watch.

I wore this (hamilton khaki field titanium) for the last year or so. It's 38mm and suuuper lightweight because of the titanium, so you can basically forget it's there.

But recently got this (laco flieger pro)

And it's been getting worn the most lately

Liking it even more today. Already one of the most comfortable wristwatches I’ve ever worn, keeps great time so far, and it pairs perfectly with navy sweaters.

Haven’t worn it in the Battub yet, so no comment there.

it's not the best idea to wear "waterproof" watches in the bath/shower. the hot water tends to make the O-ring seals expand and then leak. also, soap will totally F-up a rotating bezel.
just sayin' :thu:

Huh, I hadn't heard that before - do you know how it messes it up/what exactly it can damage?
soap, especially the bar soaps, get into the ratchet of the bezel and gum it all the F up!!
it's the binder agents in bar soap.....it's also why you get "soap scum" in the shower.
switch to liquid soap and you'll never have soap scum again, but it's still not good for the bezel ratchet. :thu:

I use body wash in the shower (and don't wear a watch in the shower either), but I do sometimes wash a watch off with lukewarm water and a bit of liquid hand soap lathered up on my hands, only if the watch gets all slimed up with a mix of sunblock and sweat (as is typical in the summer around here). If it's just sweat I just rinse it off, it's really only sunblock that I bust out some soap for. I also only have one watch with a rotating bezel, so I'll keep an eye out for soap getting around the bezel, it's really only the back that gets gunked up from sunblock, so I guess there's no need for soap around the bezel

I've always thought nomoseses were awesome (the metro with the power reserve indicator in particular), but I think I'm not enough of a cosmopolitan sophisticate to pull off the look
