XBox or PS3

12Pack

Dyslexic b00n
I currently have a PS2 - and the graphics on the PS3 are nice - just as nice as the Xbox. I don't need a blue ray player (already have that) but I'm having a dilema on getting the kids one system or the other for Christmas.

They have lots of friends with Xbox's - but I HATE the idea of paying a monthly fee just to do live gaming and internet connection. That's just bullshit if you ask me.

So then there is the PS3 - I can go on-line for free - but they have very fewer friends who have PS3 to go on line with.

What to get?

I'm a PC fanboy myself. If I were going to buy a console, it would likely be the PS3, but only because of Gran Turismo 5. I think their friends are probably why they WANT to be able to play, so it would kinda suck for them not to be able to connect with them. I agree a monthly fee for gaming kinda sucks. I have paid a subscription fee for certain games (15 a month) and I considered that my entertainment budget for the month. It's cheaper than doing a lot of other stuff.

Xbox Live is paid annually and I think the price just went up to $60 a year for gold. Silver is free. Gold service is what allows you to play multiplayer games online.

If you're at all interested in the Kinect, go Xbox
If you really want a Blu-ray player, go PS3

I went Xbox, but sometimes wish I had gone PS3 because so many folks on here are on PS3. I mean, Andy's on Xbox, but all he ever plays is Guitar Hero: Tom Waits edition

I have a PS3, Xbox, and I just added a Black Friday deal Wii. I like the 360 best for gaming. I dislike the PS3 controllers feel, especially on the triggers and it makes my hand feel cramped. I also am not a fan of the GUI on the PS3, but if you're a tweaker it's got a lot more options. I've never played anything using the free online, but since I've got Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood on the way I'll give that a try sometime soon.

The biggest decision is about the exclusives. Xbox has Fable, Gears of War, Halo as their big three. Sony has Uncharted, God of War and the Metal Gear series.

:love::love:

My roommate has both, and between the 2 of us, I'd say we use the Xbox about 98% of the time. Live Gold isn't really all that expensive, especially if you buy the subscription cards on ebay or something. Sure the online content is free (for now) on PS3, but there are no games and nobody is ever online to play, so you're basically paying nothing for nothing. Both systems offer streaming Netflix, both can be used as a media player. The only apparent advantage I can see with the PS3 is the BluRay player, but that's such a stopgap format, it's going to be useless within a few years anyway.
I loved my PS2 and original Playstation, but I'd honestly go for the Xbox at this point.

PS3. Blu-Ray, free online gaming (I never have problems finding people online to play), media server capabilities, better controllers despite what Kerowacky says.

So - Assuming I went with an XBox - do I really need the 250GB Hard Drive? Just to store movies and music and crap? Can't the 4GB console work just as well? I already have shit stored on my PC.

Yeah, plus you can use flash drives for storage now. Only thing you can't do is save a game to the HD for faster loading times.

Sorry to hijack your thread but since you guys know all about his shit I thought I'd ask. My wife bought a Wii on Friday. I know nothing about it last time I played a game was Super Mario Brothers. I was excited when she told me because I thought I could get Gran Tourismo for it but I thought wrong. Are there any good road racing games for Wii? What are your general impressions of the Wii?

Honestly, IMO if you love GT, you wont be satisfied by anything else. Sure, other racing games might be mildly entertaining, but GT is like OWNING and REALLY driving those vehicles. Nothing else comes close.

Get Mario Kart. It may not be authentic but it is more fun than you'd ever expect. :thu:

Oh and I'm enjoying my Wii, but in comparison to the other two the graphics are SHIT. Twilight Princess doesn't look much better than Ocarina of Time and that was '97-'98?

Whoa! Wait a minute, I can just add on a flash drive to upgrade my memory? I've only got 20 gigs and it is teh lame. I'm always having to clear shit.

With a few (rather notable) exceptions, they have the same game selection. I'd personally go with a PS3, as my experience with the Xbox is rather...spotty. Plus I, too, hate paying 60 bucks a year to have the privlege of getting called "fag," "noob," and "cocksucker" by 10-year-olds.
