Too Controversial To Have An Athleisure Line
I hate writing lyrics! For the past three nights I've been listening to the bass/drum/guitar I've got recorded while I stare dully into space. I have literally written one line per night, plus the hook line I came up with in the car weeks ago. I still don't even have a full chorus.
:Rage:

Oh I can relate to this. :embarrassed:
I think I have somewhere around 20 songs that need lyrics desparately.
I just can't seem to get fucking started. :embarrassed:

I just started a Songwriting Contest thread over at GJ.
If we can another one of those together, it might spur some of us toward finishing some original material.

Yeah, I was wondering if there'd be one of those this year.
tamoore isn't doing anything but running and drinking beer these days, so the rest of us might have a chance at that one this time.

It's certainly a good excuse for doing something. :embarrassed:

All I can do these days is write lyrics... everything else is getting harder it seems...

Oh geeze man...

I shouldn't have won last year. Much better songs in the contest than my slice of parody....

I mean, I'm glad I won and all..:) But, micwallt got my vote......:embarrassed:

Maybe I can write a song about running and beer......

What are you writing about?

Well, I don't want to give it away since, if we do have a songwriting contest at GJ, this will likely be my entry (if I can finish the lyrics). However, I can say that it's third person point of view about someone (close friend or family member--open to interpretation) who's having some issues. It's not about any one individual in my life, per se. Rather, it's inspired by aspects of a few people.
Is that vague enough for you?

Just yankin yer chain here t

I've already given you plenty of crap for not doing much music lately. You're too good of a songwriter to just "retire" imo. :)

Get on it man.

Here are some rhetorical questions that might help prompt you...

What's the song's perspective on the issues?
What's the "tone" of the song -- humorous, serious, somber, etc.?
What "lesson" (if any) should the listener take away?
What's the outline of the events in the song? What does the listener need to know to make this song make sense?

If you can just write this sort of stuff up normal as well as the physical/psychological description of the characters involved, you might have more to work with as you trim things down into lyrics.

I've got most of that stuff covered. I've even done some brainstorming and written a bunch of phrases, actions, and items that work within the song's context. I'm just having trouble making that leap.
I need to go on walkabout with a bottle of whiskey, some paper, and a pen.

I got started working on material for a new album about 2 weeks ago, got busy and then realized yesterday that I hadn't worked on anything in two weeks

I hate this part of songwriting ..luckily, it's mostly Lisa's responsibility and her method is she just keeps a notebook of words and phrases she likes...anytime we hear something on the TV that catches our attention we write it down...and then try to glue them to the music.

For example, we have a song called "Pottery like an Idiot" that I don't think you guys have heard yet. Every phrase in that song was spoken by Prince Charles in a documentary that he did a few years ago..even the title..he said something like "I was pottering like an idiot"..and it sounded like he said "pottery"....the first line is "Wherever you are, there's always someone hiding behind something"..which was him talking about the papparazi...before we knew it, we had a whole song..well 1 minute or so, but that's enough for us. :embarrassed:
