Dig it! Winding my first pickup.

I have practiced this one time years ago. Figured, I’m on disability from back surgery for at least 2.5 more weeks. Might as well do lots of guitar shit. Or as much as my back allows. I am super proud! Wound the first bobbin to 5400 without a break.

Way too anxiety provoking for me. Same reason I don't build pedals. Soldering makes me nervous. I'm too much of a perfectionist.

That’s probably why I can do it. I have a ton of “fuck it” living in me. It is nerve racking, the wire is smaller than a hair from my head. I broke the first one soldering it to the lead. As for the soldering, I know how to melt solder and keep poking what ever I’m soldering till it works. I could use some perfectionistic tendencies.

Wound the other bobbin in one take to 5100. Taking the slugs out of an inf, look way cooler! Alnico 5 magnet. Have to watch some stuff and figure out how to place the magnet & what base to use. I have silver and copper. The SD base I have is silver?

Awesome day of pickup winding listening to Coheed in the she shed!

I guess so.

So, I really was patting myself on the back for no issues breaking the thinnest goddamn wire on the planet. Started assembling the pickup and shit started going south. Broke the start wire on the second bobbin. Tried to rewind and the wire kept snagging on the bobbin, which was starting to look and feel like it had been nasty and caught something.

Long story short. Finally got 4 bobbins wound and assembled 2 pickups and they sound fantastic. Bridge is 11.6 and neck is 7.9, both alnico 5. Not potted. I’ll let y’all know how that affects feedback after practice Friday.
