why don't more companies use split shaft tuners?

they're easy to restring, have decent tuning ratios (at least the newer ones do), and keep everything nice and tidy. where's the love?

The split shaft are my favorite non-locking tuner.... particularly the ones with the hole in the center that you can tuck the string end down into. No sharp pokies on the headstock. :baimun:

I've never been a big fan of the split shaft. I find the damn strings pop out of the center hole much easier in the 'first restringing step' than in the hole in the post models. I'm sure there is some 'user error' component to this.

I like the ease of a good set of locking tuners the best.

You guys mean tuners like these on my tele? I like them pretty well but I had to get used to stringing them as opposed to the ones with the small hole in the shaft.

Easy to string, quick and fast. Locking tuners take longer for me and are only good on whammy bar guitars anyway
