why do you play an acoustic

I'm pretty lazy when it comes to amps, pedals, knobs, cables, tubes, speakers, etc. I love the sounds you can get with an electric, but I love the sound I get from steel-string and nylons just as much, actually more come to think of it, and I don't have to fuck with a bunch of settings. I have a tele, but I usually just plug straight into a fender champ and go at it. For the most part, I tend to prefer playing classical, flamenco, and various steel-string tunes.

..because they're made of... wood?

It is just another instrument that I can use to make noise with.

I love them all. Acoustics are no ecxeption.

there's something simple and basic about it...no frills...bright snappy sound...maybe instant gratification of sorts?
and ya can't really take an electric and all the necessary stuff camping now can you?

For me it is the fact that I started out as a folk musician and have returned to those roots. I just love the feel and sound of an acoustic guitar. :hippie:

Acoustics just have a certain life to them. You can feel the music when you are playing them. Like the guitar is alive. Plus certain music just demands the real acoustic tone. I love playing electrics too - but it really is a different instrument.

Well, sometimes i like to rock it without the amp. It's easier, believe it or not, to record my acoustic to the computer than it is my electric, and sometimes electrics are just too damn loud.

... and sometimes electrics are just too damn loud.

I actually have the opposite problem; most of the time my acoustic is too loud for me to want to play it. I'd rather just quietly play one of my electrics unplugged. :embarrassed:

But, I do like playing acoustic. Just a certain something in the sound that makes me sometimes pick it up instead of an electric. :embarrassed:

The "live-ness" of it. When I play acoustic, everything I hear is by me, only. As said earlier here....a different instrument. Well bashable!

Because I can hear it, unplugged, over the kids.

To hear an electric over my kids, I need to plug it in, which means I have cables trailing along the floor, which trip up the kids.

Did I mention I have kids?

Also, it has a nice natural sound that I just love.

I mostly play electronicified guitars but I dig an acoustic. Acoustics seem natural. You can cherry coat your electric guitars all day but they still can't touch the dynamics of an acoustic. I really dig how an acoustic guitar opens up over time and harmonics become more audible. I also like being able to bang the crap out of them when i play them.

For me, playing an acoustic is going back to my roots. I started off learning to play on an acoustic. For the first 10 years, I wrote, played, and recorded on acoustics. Even when I got my first electric, my acoustics were my goto guitars. In fact, I usually played my electrics clean because I didn't know how to control overdrive.

Now, I play solid body electric guitars almost exclusively. I play with dirt much more often than I play clean. My acoustics tend to sit in their cases for long periods of time.

Another reason I like playing acoustic guitar is that it helps me take a minimalist approach. I get back to the basics.

Because that's my first instrument. I'm actually less at home with an electric, though I'm getter better and enjoying it a lot.

I sem unable to walk by an acoustic guitar and not pick it up even for a feww seconds of trying something or playing the tune that happens to be in my head at that moment. Electric don't really do that for me.

Like Richard because it's my first instrument. I can almost fingerpick an acoustic but not so much an electric and I don't feel as comfortable trying. And some stuff simply sounds better on an acoustic

I wish I was much better on the acoustic but then again I wish I was much better period
