If he came home with a good acoustic that had no cutaway and wasn't made by Martin or Taylor, I'd be pretty stunned.
 
Nothing surprises me at this point, dude is a walking Musicians Friend. Maybe a banjo or some wacky shit like an Oud.
 
Any Danelectro or non-Fender/Gibson guitar made in the 60's.


And I really think he should play a few Suhrs.

James Tyler Variax..... He already uses the Line 6 floor unit... this guitar has a cable that would interface directly. One stomp on a button and it would not only change the amp channel and effects, but it would change which guitar sound (humbucker, single, tele, acoustic, etc) and the tuning (drop D, baritone, 12 string, etc).

That would keep him busy for a long while. When he gets bored and wants another guitar, all he needs to do is turn a knob or flip a switch. :grin:

That would be very entertaining for us. Imagine him waiting on a custom build, having already made a non-refundable downpayment, and then experiencing buyer's remorse when he discovers a luthier he likes even better.

He and I have discussed this before at length.... it's the one thing keeping him from doing custom builds... the wait and the fear that he'd change his mind before it was done.



Can't really blame him... I'm guilty of that too. It's bad enough that it takes me months to find the time to gather all the parts for my own builds and do them... but while i'm cutting out bodies, sanding necks, rubbing the tru-oil finishes on... I end up changing my mind on which neck goes with which body... which electronics... what bridge to use.... then it's a year later and I'm barely at step 2 or 3. :embarrassed:
 
Well, the other thing is that custom electrics would probably hold value as well as new cars. Impossible to flip without taking a hit. Not like classicals or archtops or even top-tier acoustics.

That is one of the things I dig about PRS guitars... they're sorta like Vettes and Ferraris... they tend to fall into certain shapes and styles that even the custom ones aren't wildly custom... but they tend to hold their value a little better than the smaller custom builders.
