Those illustrations could also be used to describe the world as a whole. The general outlook on life, especially in the US, was much cheerier.

Is it impossible to think that it's our outlooks outside of the forum that have changed and the political thread is merely a direct view of that rather than an indirect reflection in the rest of the forum that we would see anyway?

The collective 'walking on sunshine' attitude was kind of an illusion. It's not as though America's problems with extreme conservatism, racism, misogyny, anti-science doublespeak, etc., appeared out of nowhere with 9/11, the Obama inauguration, and the 2016 election. That was a position of privilege and a time of unsustainable economic growth. The only real difference is that things are out in the open rather than being swept under the rug, and people are (rightfully) experiencing anger rather than remaining complacent. We need more of that, not less.

You know, you don't have any right to claim the moral high ground here. If you ever possessed any, you've long-since abandoned it. You don't get to claim refuge or escape or safe spaces. You've spewed racism on the Internet for years, you can't play innocent and claim that your hatred shouldn't follow you, any more than Trump can.

Nobody hates muslims for no good reason. They give us plenty of reasons to do so. Slavery, rape, crucifixion, murder, theft, religious intolerance, abuse of women, murder and rape of children. Their entire "religion" is based on killing those who don't toe the line. You can sit and call me a bigot all you like...you have no idea what I've been through in my own personal life of faith, enduring all manner of insults from leftists about my faith. Is that also bigotry? Why do they hate me for my beliefs? Why do they tell me I have to change yet make excuses for jihadists selling women into concubines? Take your bigotry, put it in your pipe and smoke it, pal. Any group like muslims that makes their life's work killing the nonbeliever is scum and deserves to be shut down.

I know that you suffer the delusion that you're a good person, that you see yourself as an informed, cultured, educated intelligent person, etc., but those are delusions, simple as that. You can go to mass as often as you like, but if there is a literal hell, then you're going to have to start digging your way out of it while you still can. I sincerely doubt that you have it in you, though, and I suspect that you'll be in for an unpleasant surprise.

isn't there a rule about personal attacks on this forum? or does that just apply to certain people?

Well thanks a lot guys, now I feel even more like shit than I did before. Between this and the Charlottesville / Politics thread, and my personal life, there isn't much to be happy about.

@Flamencology gets a warning about personal attacks. @Elias Graves I could care less about at this point. You started what would have been a nice thread with a political comment and got shit on by about half the posters. If the quote in Flamencology's post is actually your own words then I'd rather you not participate in this forum anyway.


Nothing I say or do will make everyone happy so I'm not going to try to make anyone happy. This is a free forum for the participants, it was part of the marketing for my business and I held certain standards because of that. The business part is not as much of an issue anymore but I don't want it turning into another online shithole. Please keep the political stuff in the political thread. This thread is making things worse at this point and I might just shut it down. The Charlottesville thread is an obvious exception to the politics rule but it has been civil and honestly I wouldn't want anyone here who got angry trying to defend white supremacists. I think it gives the forum a place to discuss the issue without people who don't want to participate in the left-leaning political thread having to deal with the bias.

Folks can bitch all they want if they feel like I don't enforce the TOS as strictly as they'd like but this has been a small yet relatively thriving online community for almost a decade of people who visit each other when they travel, has annual get togethers that are open to anyone who wants to attend at forumites personal houses and always is supportive when a member (or a friend or family member) is in need. At the core this is a great group of people who behave well the majority of the time. I am too busy and just don't care enough to police every perceived injustice. These are stressful times for us all regardless of political, social, sexual or any other orientation you might have and folks are going to get a little heated. Just like most families. And hopefully like most families shit either gets worked out on some level or you learn to not interact with certain people and get over it all.

So there you have it. I'm a failure as a forum administrator to a portion of you and that's OK with me at this point. No one is making you post here at gunpoint. You guys are supposed to be adults so try and act like it.
