What happened to me?

Did you record the gig?

No. Since we hadn't played there for years, and were using a house PA, I didn't feel like loading up the recording gear and going through that hassle. I thought about taking my MD recorder and a couple of condensor mics and just dropping a couple of room mics and recording straight to minidisc, but even that seemed like too much work. I didn't take a video camera either.

We did take a camera, but since Mrs. P slept in the van through all but the last 15 minutes of the gig, we didn't get many pics. I'm pretty sure there are a few pics from the very end of the gig, but I haven't looked at the camera yet to see if any of them came out.

Plus, with my cold, my voice wasn't anywhere near 100% for the show, and while I made it through the first 2 sets alright, by the last set I didn't have anything left at all.

Okay, based on my past experiences with my pedalboard, combined with the experience from this weekend, I've decided to forego the fancy 'hiding the wires' thing I've been doing. I also know that I liked how my first pedalboard had the back row raised above the front row so switching was easier.

So, I redid my board (again). This time, the wires aren't hidden, but the back row is elevated and the board is much more flexible in terms of being able to put pedals where I want them. I could even add another pedal or two if I wanted. :embarrassed:

I used a 1x12x24" piece of poplar for the bottom part, and glued/screwed a 1x6 piece on top for the elevated shelf. The elevated portion is 18" long and the bottom portion, after trimming is 23" long, and the board is 12" wide.

I think this will work much better in a gig situation, even though the wiring isn't hidden. Truth be told, those big honkin' holes all over the other board didn't look so clean anyway.

Wah -> Turbo Tuner -> EVH Phaser -> Bad Monkey -> Direct Drive -> Digidelay -> Hardwire Reverb -> MXR EQ.

how often you use the EQ?
 
Try putting the phaze between the direct drive and the digidelay. It would be better to process your distortion rather than distort your processing.:thu:

I know conventional wisdom says to put time based effects after gain based effects, but having tried the phaser both before and after, it sounds a lot better before the gain.

I've never owned a pedal EQ before...

I love using an EQ as a lead boost. As you can see from the position of the sliders, it doesn't take much to push the leads to the top of the mix. Just a few DB of mid range and the leads pop, and it doesn't add any gain. Depending on how you set the EQ, you can just make your signal louder, or you can change the EQ curve slightly to make the tone cut better. I find it a lot more effective than most other boosts on the markets.

I've been using an Xotic RC booster and adding a small amoung of gain and a little Bass. The big thing for me is that the RC Booster is incredibly transparent if you want it to be. I'd be curious to try and EQ pedal and see how I dig it, though...This is what it sound slike on my rig, although the amp volume is a little low to get a great sound:
