It has not even scratched the US news reports at all, but all hell is breaking loose in Congo in central Africa. A rebel army is about to capture the capitol of Goma and the government army is in full retreat. Right now there are about 1,000,000 displaced people in the region (just the region around the capitol) and that number is growing rapidly. In the last decade or so the civil war in Congo has claimed almost 6 million lives. There are UN Peacekeepers in the area, but we all know how effective they have been in the past.
I have a couple of good friends that are about 100 miles from this right now, and some of our workers who lived in Goma just had to leave the country and hunker down in Rwanda for now. The rebel army will probably be taking aim at Rwanda next, so this whole part of central Africa is about to explode and we could have another genocide on our hands in the next year if things progress as they appear to be happening now.
