Whadday'all thinka the Gorillaz?

Essentially, much like the Monkees in the 70s up through the various incarnations of pop-stars, teen-idols, etc. (e.g. Britney, David Cassidy, etc.) it is music that is written and produced by studio musicians and released fronted by a telegenic "image" (in the case of Gorillaz, a cartoon). I don't necessarily mean it as a disparaging adjective -- rather it is simply descriptive of the process. If I am incorrect, I will take no umbrage at any differing opinions!

That's where I thought you were coming from, but I'd rather avoid presuming and ticking anyone off.

As mentioned in my previous post, I don't think of them that way. They weren't a corporate creation, but just another avenue through which Albarn could present and package his music. Hewlett's art is awesomely stylized and the two together is just great. It's the musical equivalent of a graphic novel, or series. Instead of just doing a solo album Damon and Jamie created this alternate reality wherein (at least I think) the art an music informed and influenced each other and continue to evolve.

I was reading up on Noodle, the female guitar player character that started as a teen in the band and is now in her early 30s. They aren't freezing the band in time as is often the case in the world of cartoons.

It's definitely manufactured, but far differently (seemingly with an artistic focus) than the Monkees, Menudo, New Kids, Spice Girls, BackNSync...and other stuff like that. It seems more true or real despite being a virtual band. A more fully realized artistic concept and endeavor. And maybe more valid?

I think we are in violent agreement here! Like I said, I like Gorillaz -- good music and good artwork...

Edit: Damnit! now I feel compelled to watch the "Feel Good Inc" video again...
