Weird noise after a note...

Tube dampers...no help. I put two on the power tube and one each on the pre-amp tubes (they're recessed, so I can't really get two on them. Usually they're covered by metal tube covers that would preclude putting any tube dampers on them, but I removed those. I also reseated all the tubes in case one was loose.

I am leaning to one of two hypotheses:

1) bad tube. It has three of them (an EL84 and two 12AX7). I don't have any spares at the moment and I'm not interested in investing in some given my current financial condition.

2) the fact that while the noise is tube generated, the DSP and the reverb are both digital add ins that get in the signal path. I do not use the DSP, but it's still in the path. I do use the reverb and I tested with reverb turned all the way down as well as on, and it made no difference in this "aftertaste" noise.

I will continue to update as I work on the issue.

Dammit, I was convinced of it. I think you must be right about a bad tube...

Want to buy some chinese tubes off of me?

I don't need them.

12AX7 - $5 each

plus shipping. PM if interested - I may also have a couple of EL84's hanging around too.

I swapped the EL84 from my Valve Jr into my Valve Special.

Weird noise gone.

Case closed, and you can book him, Danno. Murder one.

Fwiw, I have found tube dampers to work great for certain types of ghost notes. In particular, if you,re getting an after note that sounds sort of airy on specific note (usually around the c# through d# area of the low E for some reason). I've seen this on 6L6's and 6V6's and el84's.
