Weekend Wrapup

Had a wacky gig in a metal bar last night in Corona. It was like 1989 all over again. It might turn into some sort of live internet tv thing at the Whisky a gogo in Hollywood on Tuesday night. Strange.

Also bought an HX Stomp from @micwalt and I'm setting it up as a backup amp. Good times.

Did stuff around the house. Temperatures got up around 50. So, I took advantage of it.

Mrs DCF found a raccoon chilling out in the basement window well. They took off in different directions. LOL.
She made me make something to make it more difficult for big critters do that. So, I threw together a grid of wood slats and goosed it on top. It seems to work.

I also rebuilt my entire network gear from factory defaults. Still have stuff to do, but it’s functional and secure.

Took a four-day weekend from work...I asked both of my guys if they wanted Friday off, and they both kind of just looked at me and blinked so I took it...

Small Thanksgiving at my sister's on Thursday...

Friday AM chores and errands...spent the afternoon in the studio...

Saturday gave the apartment a clean sweepdown fore and aft, more studio time...

Sunday...went for an early AM drive to listen to some music and just move for awhile...tackled a long-overdue chore by cleaning off my desk and organizing paperwork and mail...

Woke up very early this morning in extreme intestinal distress, so banged out of work...oh well....

Thursday - went to my dad's house for thanksgiving

Friday - went Camping in the Galiuro Mts. which is my current favorite range in a 3 hr. drive from Tucson. located near the NM border north of Willcox it's very little visited and the people that go there are true outdoorsy types , mainly serious hikers, backpackers, hunters. I never even heard an airplane the whole day on friday let alone any vehicles. saturday about 6 am a UTV drove by but just a single guy who was out hunting. I was about 50 yards from the end of the trail so he just turned around and left. When leaving I found out the nearest pearson was about a mile or two away and there were a few more beyond them, they all seemed to be hunting camps. I spotted a couple deer but that was the only wildlife. One of the most peaceful and easygoing camps I ever had, everything went perfect. Got down to abouyt 21 overnight (Willcox area gets cold all the time and averages in the 20's from now till Febuary or so but daytimes get to the mid to upper 50's usually). It's wide open grassland and farms in the valley so nothing to hold the heat in and it gets windy there. Of course Sonny woke me at 4 am. I had condensation on my bag and had to take a piss so i just got up and made a fire till sunrise.

Saturday - got home about noon put about half my stuff away and then slept off and on the rest of the day even though I went to bed on Friday at about 6:45pm (it gets pitch black here about 6:20 this time of year)

Sunday - went up to the nearby trashy grocery store which i rarely go to because i didn't need much and i din't want to drive anywhere. The store is a throwback to early 1980's stores and I seriously don't think it's been updated since the late 80's. spent the rest of the day putting a few things away, doing laundry and watching youtube.

This was the general lay of the land. This was at the end of the trail so we walked up here a few times. That's mt Graham in the background and you could see the observatory from this spot.

View from camp. I spotted the fire ring driving in but I don't think it was used in a while. I had to take my saw out and knockdown branches on about 4 trees in order to back in from the road since it was a two track road, also had to fold the mirrors in. I drive an 04 Grand Cherokee and pretty much anything bigger would not be able to make the turn into the spot.

Friday - worked the photo booth at my brother's gig as his guy had COVID. Fun night since he was driving I got to have a good few pints.

Saturday - chilled out, started watching Wednesday then fired up the ooni and made pizzas. Mrs JBJ went to her bed early so I popped over to the pub. The landlady is bringing in buskers every month or so to try and get a turn. They had a dude in, he wasn't very good unfortunately and it was quiet.

Sunday - woke up to a message that my brother's father in law unfortunately passed away during the night after a short fight with cancer. At least he's not suffering any more though it sucks for all involved.

More Netflix, made a loaf of bread, took Lola a nice long walk then chilled out.

After a long time of always being on call or shift for black friday, I continue the newer tradition of doing next to nothing important over 4 glorious days.

Friday the xmas tree, decorations, and lights went up. It’s always kinda surprising to get so many positive comments from people walking by on how much they appreciate the lights and stuff for the holidays.

Saturday made some big batches of chili, carne asada, and carnitas for the freezer.

Long 5 day weekend. My first real time off in over 6 months.

Thanksgiving was pretty quiet. I smoked the turkey on our Weber Kettle. Not quite the smoke flavor I was hoping for, but it still turned out great.
Friday we had to take one of our cats, our 6 year old, back to the shelter we got him from over 4 years ago. We want to have multiple animals, and he just would have no part of it. We hired a cat behavior specialist and followed a long proven system for getting cats to at least tolerate each other, but to no avail. He would viciously attack every time he saw her and was not held by one of us. It was sad, but he is otherwise a great cat, and he went back to a no-kill shelter. They assured us he would be adopted quickly. Orange Tabbys do not last long there.

Otherwise - quiet weekend. I played bass and sang at church on Sunday. My voice felt a bit scratchy all morning, and I was a bit sore by the end of the service. Later on in the afternoon I felt like I had been hit by a train. It's not Covid (I tested negative), just a nasty cold. In the late afternoon I saw a huge beautiful dog in our front yard by herself. Her tag had a name and a number so we called. Yep - she had wandered away from home. She looked to be a husky/German Shepherd mix, and was all muscle. Very sweet dog. We kept her in the side yard until her owner could pick her up.

Usual thanksgiving stuff. I did take a trip to GC on Saturday. Do you know what is more annoying than 3 teenagers trying to bang out different metal riffs at GC? 3 middle aged dudes trying to play different jazz tunes at the same time while trying out gear.

chips or cubes? I find chips need to be replenished too frequently in most cases for longer smokes in the kettle.

Couple of gigs with my cover band this past weekend. Friday morning, both my drummer and my bassist tested positive and had to bail on that day's gig (the rest of us tested negative). A couple of bassist friends filled in -- one knew some of the set, the other knew the rest -- and our regular drum sub was able to make it last minute. The stage was a free-for-all of revolving band members playing various instruments (all while wearing our required costume), and we managed to sound decent.

Saturday I got a few things fixed on the motorcycle.

5 day weekend. Cooked most of Thanksgiving on Wednesday and that made Thursday nice and chill. Threw the frisbee with my boys, brother in law and 2 nephews. Played poker. Had to teach my ten year old and then he proceeded to whip our asses. Let me be clear, we are not bad at poker, that kid just clicked with it and fell into some pretty good hands too. His betting strategy was superb.
Friday, Saturday and Sunday I did as little as possible.
Did end up at GC Saturday and bought the 10 year old a nice digital drum set (jokes on my wife, that kit is MINE!!!) We strolled through some antique shops as well. I got chocolate covered bacon and a white chocolate covered twinkie from Angel and Phelps.
Bacon was nasty. Twinkie was delicious.

Saturday we went to the in-laws for lunch. It was already getting dark when we left, and then this thick, thick fog came over us. I was really, really trying to be really, really careful not to go any faster than I could actually see whatever was coming in good time, and I still have 20/20, but a couple of times people came from behind at mental speed and overtook us. It was quite scary, and I expected we'd have to get out at some point and help people out of their wrecks, if we'd even ever notice anyone going off the road that is. Made it home safely thank fuck and chilled the rest of the evening.

Sunday I made a solid fry-up for breakfast and we went for a nice long stroll in the forest. Still a bit foggy but beautiful in the daylight, and I just love how the light is during this time of year, and it was very quiet out there too.

sounds like people are driving worse and worse all over and not just'mericuh. I still blame the automakers for making ridiculously powerful cars (which have equally ridiculous repair costs because of it) and also things like 4 wheel anti lock brakes, skid control, lane awareness, etc, etc....toomuch tec enology to make people feel invincible and then with the underlying 0-60 in 1.3 seconds it's disasters waiting to happen  I wish they would limit cars to no more than 300 HP and use their technology to make governers and such which would cut the ignition upon seeing certain parameters such as excess over the speed limit in X amount of time with X amount of vehichle load, etc

It was chips. I like using cherry wood and all I could find were chips. I think you are right - I needed chunks to get the correct length of smoke to do it right.

Thanksgiving at our friends as usual (over 25 years going there now). The wife made corn casserole and green beans both were a big hit especially the former with the "kids" (the youngest kid is now in high school the oldest approaching 30). My wife didn't want to stay too late so we left just before midnight  her fault not mine

Nice weather here so rode before and after TG to burn off the calories consumed

Only had training Monday and Tuesday off last week, so my weekend started early last Tuesday afternoon. My whole family was sick. I never really got anything, but I slept 10-11 hrs every night. I'm cramming in writing/recording to see how many tracks I'll have ready to submit to my friend group's annual Christmas compilation, one of which will be my December submission to my songwriters group.

I also spent a lot of time in the woodshop, making twin pedal boards (one with my acoustic rig, one electric) and two cigar box guitars (also twins, as much as the spare parts/scrap wood approach allows).
