I always use a 10K resistor with wires and a screwdriver. It is from Tech days discharging CRT HV supplies.

I bought some alligator wires and wired in a resistor to that.

I bought some alligator wires and wired in a resistor to that.

I have mine setup that way too. The only difference though is that I will attach one of the alligator clips to a screwdriver and then attach that to the cap when I discharge the cap. I prefer not to place the other alligator with my hand. It is just from repairing CRT monitors in the past where 7KV on up was present.
