Upcoming NHL season...how did your club do in the off-season?

The Flyers are going to be SCARY good this year.

Despite losing Gagne to Tampa Bay, we picked up 2 more GOOD defensemen, a Russian sniper, and a couple of good prospects.

Still unsure on the goaltending, but we're going to score some points, that's for sure!

We probably have the best defensive corp in the league!

Can't wait till the season starts!
:thu:

P.S. You KNOW Philly is going to be good when they cut Bill Guerin.

...Yea, we're looking decent...I dunno about starting Bobrovsky as backup though...Zherdev has looked great with Giroux, a line with those two and Briere would be incredibly sneaky...hopefully Pronger is back decently quick, and its a drag about Lappy...should be a good season though...

We did well. I only got to see one game though so I cant really say how I think they look. But I expect the Penguins to go far this year, maybe even all the way again. I gotta say, cheering for Asham is REALLY weird!! :embarrassed:

Judging from what I have read the Avs had a fairly quiet off season. They had a couple of good draft choices and at this point seem to be in the 'build from within' mode. They have some very talented young players, but that can cut both ways as they grow in the league. They started last season really hot then cooled down considerably last year - partly due to over playing Anderson in the goal. I'm guessing the Avs finish a bit lower than last season and probably miss the playoffs. But I barely follow hockey at all......

With the Rockies in the playoff hunt late in the season, all the Carmelo Anthony noise, and the Broncos season going one the Avs have not gotten much press around here lately.

You can keep him.
Good fighter, though.

Oh, let me clarify something here. I do like Sid. A lot. But I am not a typical "the golden boy can do no wrong, he's Mario Jr." type fan. He's a great passer, a great playmaker. I think he is loyal to his team. But I also think he is whiny and deserves a little bit of the crap he gets at times.

We dont need another fighter. He's an agitator, which is OK for that line, but as for fighters, plenty of guys on the team can step up. Godard being the most obvious, he's a SCARY dude when he gets going. Rupp is no joke, either. TK, Letang, Max, and Orpik will all drop the gloves when they feel it's good for the team, too, and even though 3 out of those 4 arent very big, they're TOUGH players. If Staal would stop being such a pansy, he'd be pretty scary himself, but he wont throw a punch to save his life.

Anyway, yeah, we dont really need another fighter. I'm curious to see how Bylsma is going to play Asham.

I don't follow hockey, but my casual observations are that the Blackhawks went "here's something that works, let's fuck it up!"

...I think your underestemating Asham...he can be, and has a history of being a fighter, but hes a decent forward too...lotta grit and muscle, can shake things up and really pressure a weak line...hes got good hands too, Ive seen him deke dmen out of their jocks...I think hes a great pickup for Pitt...and it saddens me greatly to have to root against him...

...the loss of Asham and Gagne was a tough one for me this summer...

What happened was there is a salary cap and their (former) GM Dale Tallon fucked up the year before and didn't submit paperwork making a bunch of players restricted free agents so in order to keep guys like Byfuglien, Bolland, Versteeg etc they basically had to pay them over twice what they were worth so the payroll was inflated and they had to bring it down.

The Hawks still have their core players so if they got guys to fill different roles they should be OK.
