Unhappy NBD

Since I got son's Dean Paramount, thanks Peen, I've been searching for a different pickguard. Well I can have one custom made, $$$ and would have to be without original pickguard for a while. Looking for easier, cheaper. Been going to Talkbass everyday to see if anybody there has come up with one.

So, have you ever heard of Glarry? They are all a tither about them over there. Ordered one:

Couple of questions.

If you were going to rip out all the frets and replace them with wood, what wood would you choose? Fretboard is rosewood.

What are your thoughts on a three pickup Jazz bass?

When I converted a fretted bass neck to freetless, I just just wood filler. It was stainable, but I left it as is so there were still fret lines you could see.

It was delivered last night. Sending it back.

I can understand why you'd send it back, but there may be enough play in the neck pocket to align it...

I think the neck pocket is where the trouble started and everything else is from that. If it was deeper into the side of the body, that would help slot. Don't know if you can tell from pic but bridge is cocked, spun counterclockwise.

The bridge twist is easily overcome with the intonation adjustments, but the neck pocket being misaligned not so much...if you really wanted to keep it you could pull the neck and file the pocket until it moved the neck into position, but it's probably not worth the effort...

You get what you pay for.

SX basses were flavor-of-the-month on the old HCBF. Inexpensive bass perfect for modding went the mantra.

Reality was they're just cheap basses.
