Today is the I vote.

Give 'em hell 12P!

We have to vote for a bunch of state proposals, city bond issues, and school district trustees. Not too exciting but I feel guilty if I don't vote any more, so I do. At least there probably won't be a line.

I voted for you.

A write-in, actually. You might also become a trustee for the Clear Creek ISD. The commute to League City is a bitch, though.

I voted for four of the five open slots on the city council, because of the numerous people running only four matched with my views. I wrote in Great Cthulhu for the fifth slot.

Heed the Call!

We get to mail in our ballots, which is really damn cool. You get plenty of time to research candidates, fill it out in your leisure then drop it in the mail.

No ballot hereabouts, except a couple of cities had initiatives to levee a local sales tax on recreational weed - which becomes legal 1/1/18

I'd be interested to know too. I mean it is still illegal under federal laws, so employers could still test and not hire.
I'm in a legal rec state

Many employers will test as a condition of employment and some do randoms.

For all practical purposes, it's no different than before... however there have been some state legislative efforts underway to prohibit employers from terminating an employee that tests positive when use is outside of work.

If it were legalized in my state, I would support taxing the hell out of it and giving that money to schools and teachers. And I'm saying that as someone who would be a frequent buyer

Interestingly, a lot of news has been generated on this specific issue. Apparently, there is a lot of concern that high taxes (could be as high as 50%) will actually keep the black market healthy even when faced with competition from legal recreational weed:

How are employers dealing with the change? Especially w/r/t drug testing?

I can only speak for my company. While I live in MD, our parent company is based in CO. The question came up at one of our All Hands meetings and the CEO's position was that as long as it's against federal law, that is how they treat it. OTOH, we don't have random testing, but I believe they do test as part of the interview process.
