Thinking about a Cayman S

If, in time, things go my way, I'll be needing something else as a DD. I've looked at the new Focus ST, the Challegers, new Impalas, even restomods. But I keep going back to the Cayman. I want something with modern amenities, pretty good on gas and still perform and finally, I've always wanted a non-domestic car for a change. The Cayman S fits the bill.

This one, for example, is a 2006 with roughly 61K. $26K. It's got a six-speed auto which I'm not too crazy about, but I'll be shopping for a long while.

I'd like to put down half and finance the rest. That's very doable, when the savings gets where it needs to be :embarrassed: Hard to make a livin' on a technicians pay, but dammit, I want one.
 
I always have had a huge lust for Porsche...
Until I remember they are made in Germany.

Sorry, but having owned several (some mine, some in my family) VW's and Porsches in the past, I vow to learn never to repeat mistakes. YMMV

based on where you live....i would give a Boxster a look also. then you'd have a convertible for the summer days.

Thought about the same thing myself a while back and decided the running costs/consumables were a little higher than I really wanted to deal with.
Then thought about either an early '80s 911SC (which you can easily pull good examples well under 30k, in the same range as the Cayman S in your OP) or even better, mid-late '80s Carrera 3.2 for a few duckets more....realized daily driving an 80s 911 probably wasn't what I really wanted to do in the winter and eventually settled on a completely different direction. Go figure.

I've been there already, looking at older/low mileage models, but I'm going to need something a bit newer as well. That's why I've come full-circle back to the Cayman. I'll just keep saving and looking. :grin:

I'd wanted one since they came out in 2006, and I finally got mine a little over 2 years ago. It was my 40th bday present to myself. I absolutely love it.

Aw man, I'm green with envy. Hopefully one day I'll join the club.

Is yours an auto or manual?

I remember my Dad going through this "phase" when he bought a Jaguar in his forties. :grin:
